QF94 - Water Leak inflight

Hey guys,

QF94 VHOQD has returned to LAX due to an inflight water leak, it occurred about an hour into the flight.

From Qantas media room

"A flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne has returned to LA about an hour after take off as there was a water leak on board the aircraft. Crew on board did everything they could to help customers, including moving them to unaffected areas and providing spare blankets so they could stay dry.

We're also providing customers with hotel accommodation while the issue is being fixed by our engineers in Los Angeles. We apologise to customers for the inconvenience. There were no safety of flight concerns with the water leak, however the Captain decided to return to LA in the interests of passenger comfort. We are liaising with Airbus to understand what caused this fault."

"No safety of flight concerns"? Have they forgotten about the QF1 incident several years ago when water leaking from a galley seeped through to the electronics bay and caused a complete failure of electrical systems?
Sure this is a different aircraft type but the potential would have to be there for this amount of water to affect electronic systems.

Seems to have been a very quick fix and clean.

VHOQD has been back in the air since the third when she operated QF94 and is currently on approach in to DXB as QF2.

Can some one tell me why some articles have described this as an embarrassment for Qantas? Wouldn't it be an embarrassment for Airbus? Their Premium product failing?

I remember flying out of Singapore on the QF 744's for England and the humidity causing condensation in the air conditioning ducts. When the plane rotated all the water poured to back and out the A/C ducts all over pax. No one ever chucked a hissy then.

Agree Stephen, While not good for a Qantas aircraft, it is not their fault on such a new aircraft, but that of Airbus.
Where you get pipes and connections, it is just a matter of time before one lets go somewhere and 'leaks'....
Maybe Airbus will now improve their build quality and pre-release inspection schedule requirements to include the water reticulation system in the A380
