Both C-17's departed around 1630-ish. No idea on the destination. One from Travis, the other from McChord.

I expect that they are the prep Secret Service crew for AF1.

Also they carry the spare Presidential motorcade vehicles etc.

They normally turn-up a couples of days before AF1

The IL-76 was reportedly carrying the Russian version of the Secret Service (pre Putin arriving).

With four G20 leaders to address Federal Parliament there will also be extra aircraft in Canberra Friday and then Monday to Wednesday next week, so spotters in Canberra are in for a mini-treat.

Nothing will compare to Brisbane, though. The US President alone will be bringing 14 x 747s for his entourage and equipment including his Presidential limo, his Marine One chopper and over 5,000 staff and media! Quite mind boggling.

What're the US media travelling on? I presume some kind of charter as they have in the past? Delta, United?

14x 747's!!! I think what ever news report you've been listening too Phillip has there wires crossed. 1x VC-25 and 1x C-32 will bring the POTUS out with E-4 lurking near by. And 5,000 people just for Preiedent I don't think so. At maximum there will be 7x C-17's with 2/3 VH-60N's and 5x MV-22's from VMM-265. With 6x KC-130J's in support of 22's.

In other news, Turkish Government have a couple of plans listed for TC-TUR (A330) to come to Brisbane, lets assume the flight today isn't coming and go with tomorrows version! Arrives at 2130 Thursday evening (subject to change).

I have it on good authority that the totals of 14 a/c and 5,000 personnel coming to Australia directly attributable to US involvement in G20 are accurate. In addition to President Obama remember that other members of his Cabinet are also coming including the Treasury Secretary and the Secretary of State. It is true that the a/c will not all be 747s.:o

BNE has done well out of this Lloyd, even just to see 4 IL-96,s

on the ground in Aus would have been worth the trip just by itself.

Rowan McKeever

Or for that matter, how they got to SYD? Did they fly commercial, a la Wills & Kate (in F on BA or QF)? They definitely flew SYD-CBR-BNE on RAAF with Abbott.

I've finally finished sorting through my photos of special G20 visitors. All my photos can be found here.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/brandon301095/sets/72157648839768559/

My favourites movements would have to be Air Force 1, Saudi 747SP, the 4 IL-96s and the IL-76. I am a little disappointed that I missed out on the South African 727 and Mauritania B737. However I am absolutely stoked with the amount of special movements I managed to catch.
