WMY is still in WGA, moved from Bay 6 [which was used by ZLG today for a charter flight] at the Wagga Air hangars.

HRH Prince Harry (or Captain Wales?) departed this morning as 'Royal One' for Wellington from 10 RAAF Richmond...

First up, Consort 24 arrived from Canberra (Governor General?)

This was followed by Spartan 28 arriving from Holsworthy Barracks

I've heard reports a Qatar A340 was in Auckland recently? Can anyone confirm and why, also if it is stopping in Sydney. Off topic I know I just thought I'd throw it out there

Jayden Laing
12th May 2015, 07:20 AM
Todd, from what I know, it only overnighted & used the flight number "QAF1". I saw on FR24 it overflew Brisbane heading down to Auckland & then the following morning when it departed, it was tracking back up NW direction. Didn't look like it was stopping in Sydney. I noticed too that it wasn't trackable on FlightAware.

The Qatar aircraft was an A340-313 A7-AAH, its been using the flight number QAF9 between Auckland and Singapore. I've been able to track it on Flightaware.

Thanks for that Emil. When I put the rego into Flightaware, it said it was untrackable. I might have to start checking flight numbers also.

Anyone know which RAAF Herc was doing circuits at Gilgandra this arvo? And if one was also doing circuits here last night?

Grahame Hutchison
13th May 2015, 06:31 PM
Hi Rowan,

A97-442 (http://adsb.16right.com/stationB/registration/A97-442) was out today (only one from what we received) and we tracked it on ADS-B for around 50 minutes - unfortunately no position data.

Robert.M

Picked up A97-465 this morning and afternoon.

Thanks gentlemen! There's been a Herc buzzing around up here off and on since about 4pm. Wondering if it might be working from Dubbo or similar

Grahame Hutchison

A97-442 just popped up at 21:17 as Trojan 41

Rowan McKeever
14th May 2015, 05:14 PM
So seems like they're working from Richmond then?? Another one arrived in the Gil' area about half an hour or so ago. Apparently they come up here often throughout the year but from my experience they seem to always be here in the week of Gil & Dubbo shows.

Hi Rowan, You can check the Registrations for Military movements within approx. 250nm of YSSY by going to 16Right ADS-B (http://adsb.16right.com/adsblogs/) and selecting just Military and Today. Below are all the movements received today.

C-130s 442 and 465 were operational today.

Car 9 and company are performing friction testing on Runway 16 Right, which appears to involve multiple full length passes of the runway (presumably with some sort of test equipment on board).

Nigel C
16th May 2015, 12:28 AM
The friction testing vehicle is a Ford F250. It carries about 1 tonne of water and has a small trailer at the back which houses the test unit.

Page 2 here shows the friction testing gear with an older tow vehicle shown.

Thanks for the information Nigel, this was the first time I had seen the Friction Testing on ADS-B, and listened to the associated ATC Coms. At the end of the Dubai video, I think they said it was done weekly, is that the frequency at Sydney ?

Nigel C
16th May 2015, 01:09 PM
Given my shift pattern I really can't give you an accurate response, but I know it's not weekly. However, now that the friction test has been done we're likely to see some rubber removal works planned.

Newly repainted VH-ZLE departed WGA for ADL this evening, after a slight hiccup (required to use the REX power carts).

Nice paint, did you catch VH-PPD Robert ?

Robert.M
17th May 2015, 10:29 PM
Negative, was going to stick around but off to Melbourne in the morning. VH-PPD is a semi-frequent visitor though, as Paspaley owns 'South Tahara', a stones throw from the airport.

Love your pics Grahame, especially the last 3 of the aircraft!

Separately, does anyone know if the Jetgo that arrived just before midday is in SYD for Mx or just visiting? TIA!

+1 on the great pics.

Talk about a polished bird, that 744 looks like a 16 year old all dressed up for the prom, wonder when they will get a couple of A380s to replace them?

Hi all,
Quick question. Why is Malaysian Airlines operating A380s to Sydney for the next 9 days? Any information would be appreciated.

I picked up the Malaysia Airlines A380 9M-MNB this afternoon, its second visit to Sydney in as many days, no sunshine but interesting lighting all the same.
