I wonder if QF are eyeing some MH birds to fill the gaps with the A380s and 777-200ERs up for immediate sale.

They have delayed future A380,s deliveries because they cant fill the ones they have and why would they buy 20 year old 777,s.

Just my armchair CEO opinion on this...

I think QF will keep an eye on the A380's as they are still very young (maybe 2 or 3 airframes would be good, just like when they purchased the extra Boeing 744's VH-OEB,OEC,OED). The extra A380 airframes could be used to service HKG again and possibly other routes (e.g. QF15/16 or QF17/18). This could also speed up the non-refurbished 744's retirement as refurbished 744's on routes such as SYD-HKG or SYD/BNE-LAX can replace non-refurbished 744's routes e.g. (JNB or NRT/HND). It would also be good to have a spare A380 on call just in case if one went tech as we've seen with OQF's "accident" in the hangar the other day which is now affecting QF11/12 ops. If QF were interested in these airframes they would probably lease them rather then purchase them outright as they don't have the capital at the moment.

As much as we all want the 777's IMHO it just won't work out for QF as it'll just add more costs rather the benefits (Maintaining/running a new aircraft type and flight crew training etc).

They delayed them a while ago, don't think they have an issue filling them now. Not sure what the reference is to in regard twenty year old triplers, the MH ones up for sale include some 2004 builds, which would be an attractive alternative to a 747.

Crew Training would not be an issue, QF have a large pool of 777 rated crew from a tech perspective, everything else could be outsourced to EK, not easy but not hard either.

Where'd the 777 rated tech crews come from?

Their 767 base, it's a dual rating, while the current ones are returning from furlough in sand land.

Big diff between two fourteen year olds and two eleven year olds and a so called twenty year old from a MRO perspective

Not much between 14 and 20 only 6 years but who cares, all that matters is they are old aircraft that QF wouldn't even think buying.

Malaysia Airlines Chief Executive Christoph Mueller said on Sunday that two of the airline's six A380 Superjumbos are "surplus to requirement".

I wonder if TK may look into them, I've heard rumours about them picking some up and the possibility of them operating a SYD service once the new airport is finished.

Well they are reportingly going to refurbish their products onboard their Boeing 777-200ERs and Airbus A330-300s with fully lie flat products replacing the angled beds.

I'd assume that'd be going along with their rebrand, would be a nice time to introduce new cabin products at the same time as their rebranding process.

One of the A380s did a charter for the soccer. 80 pax on an A380 and they still had a seat mate
