I think A6-APA will have the honours of operating the first service. A6-APC was delivered yesterday to EY and looks to have been towed to a maintenance hangar.
On a side note A6-EHL is currently operating the last scheduled EY A340 service to YSSY as EY450/EY451. Tomorrow afternoon will bring an end to A340 commercial operations at YSSY. Only SA will remain as the sole A340 operator to Australia (WA).
Thanks for the heads up Nathan
Tomorrow Will not be the last A340-600 flight by Etihad. the A340-600's will still operate on Saturday's until the end of June. Then from August the A340's will operate on Monday's.

9M-MNC operated today's MAS123/122 A380 service for Malaysia Airlines - beautiful livery, just needs some more colour on the tail.

Photographed the LAN B787-8 Dreamliner for the first time this morning, it taxied along Charlie for a Runway 16L departure to Auckland and Santiago. I think
the LAN livery really suits the shorter B787-8 Dreamliner. Its only taken me 8 weeks to be there at the right time.

Beautiful plane - the engine nacelle looks to have some non-standard black lines on it. Wonder what they are...

Possibly some form of speed tape?
Grahame Hutchison
14th June 2015, 10:54 PM
Maybe this will help ...
It does look like tape and it even goes across the Rolls Royce logo.

That appears to be high speed tape! Was like that when it first visited Sydney on May 28 (?) so can't be that important!

It's interesting that it appears quite patchwork. I'm not technical (as in I have no idea what tape is used for on aircraft), but surely that's not structural; there probably wouldn't be panel lines on the engine cowling on those areas?
Mitch G
15th June 2015, 04:33 PM
I don't think there would be, especially cutting directly through the Rolls Royce logo.

I checked with my contact at Boeing and he said, "No one in the Everett Pilot Office seems to know what it is. Not how it's delivered".
Presumably something LAN has added after delivery ?
Mitch G
16th June 2015, 09:07 AM
I agree Grahame, I'd assume it is speed tape added by LAN - unsure of the purpose though as there doesn't seem like any damage is present.

Could be related to a lightning strike, although some time ago...

Unsure where else to post as I don't see this worthy of its own thread, but I have noticed that the VARA ATRs have dropped the "Alpha" off their ATC call signs, i.e. "Velocity 672 Alpha" is now only "Velocity 672"

A little late, last weekend VH-NFO (Firebird 200), VH-YAS (Firebird 290), VH-FEP (Bomber 222), VH-IWU (Bomber 716) and VH-BXO (Fire Spotter 265) were in Nowra.
Today, two C130J Hercules (A97-449 and 467) made a rare brief visit to Wagga.

I posed the LAN Dreamliner engine tape question to Captain Mike Bryan, B787 Project Pilot and #PAS15 Display Pilot, and his answer was "I have no idea why they
are there". Mike had checked with Boeing Flight Test Analysis, Propulsion Aerodynamics and Nacelle Aerodynamics, and they all had no idea either.
Mike's practical suggestion was that, "maybe they are reflective and help ground service carts or baggage carts not to run into them at night. Simple answers
are at times the best ones".
It looks like only LAN will have the final answer.
Has anyone seen them on other LAN Dreamliners, or are they just on CC-BBB ?
If they are just on CC-BBB then the lightening strike maybe the answer.
By the way, Boeing have released another version of the #PAS15 Dreamliner Rehersal video with Youtube, this time you can swap between three cameras views
in real time. Only appears to work on web browsers, not IOS devices.

RAAF Beech King Air 350 A32-351 Callsign HDSN35 has just completed a Northern and Southern Sydney coastal run at 300ft, contour flying the beaches. The
aircraft then continued on down to Wollongong at 500ft.

I photographed LAN Dreamliner CC-BBC last week, and it does not have the horizontal speed tape on the engine (at least not the starboard one). Maybe the lightening strike on C-BBB is the reason ?

Military activity could be to do with "Exercise Talisman Sabre" which is being held in FNQ next month.
Also the USN Carrier "USS George Washington" had an R&R visit to Brisbane last weekend before heading north.
