Hi all,
I have family on JQ35 from YMML to Bali, and noticed it turned around near Ayers Rock and is on decent into Melbourne. If any one knows why, please let me know.
That said, can JQ not service 787 in Alice Springs or Darwin?

Volcanic Eruption somewhere I believe, JQ37 has also diverted to Melbourne.

JQ handled an A332 at ASP a few years ago so no doubt the B787 can be done too, physically anyway... & at DRW too, no doubt. It probably was more about crew time & re-crewing the flight particularly if, as Zac said, it's due to volcanic ash (ie there might be no way of knowing how long it's on the ground).
ASP's other issue, if the stay were to be a longish one (this happened with the A332) is the border agencies which are not permanently stationed, so doubtful the pax could come off anyway. Not to mention, if they did get off, there aren't enough hotel rooms for them.

JQ has announced that they have recommenced flights to Bali.
Only one cancelled, (out of SYD) by JQs count.

ASP has over 1500 hotel rooms, even in the dry they rarely sell out.

Adrian, the issue will be the location of the ash cloud. They may have to cross the path of the ash cloud so were diverted back to an Australian port, normally the port of departure.

Yeah that was the case John, now they are stuck over there and am looking at some options. Lombok was open for a little while but the closure notice on NOTAMs for WADD has removed the line bout closure due to the Volcano. Hate for them to miss out by being in the wrong place at the right time.
