I just noticed from my office a QF 747 in oneworld livery land at Las Vegas. Anyone know why? A charter or a diversion?

Attached is a photo. Excuse the quality, it was taken on my phone as I wasn't expecting it.

It is a charter

Great, thanks Sarah. It's at a stand off bay now.

It looks as though from the Sydney Airport international departures from yesterday (Friday 17 July, 2015) that there was a QANTAS flight QF6031 which was due to depart for Las Vegas at 12:00 noon and actually left the terminal at 12:45 pm.

Based on my estimate it would have arrived at Las Vegas around 9:30 - 10:00 am local on Friday. The registration should be VH-OEF thanks to 16Right.com.

There is no arrival time back in Sydney for the return charter flight that I can see, either tomorrow or Monday, so it may be staying at Las Vegas for a few days while the passengers all make their fortunes. Alternatively, it may depart for elsewhere on a multi-stop trip such as a Captains Choice tour.

Yeah, I took the photo at 9.40am local time Friday so your timing is spot on James.

It's at a stand off bay at the moment (Friday 4.30pm) so it may wait until the return flight.

The aircraft has since positioned to Los Angeles. Charter was for flight centre group. Return flight to Sydney QF6032 scheduled for 2200 Sunday 19th.

Thanks Nathan. Yeah as I left work about 5.15pm last night I saw it at the D gates at an air bridge getting prepared for departure.

Thanks everyone for all the info.

No problem. It was a nice surprise when I saw it on the original inbound.
