VH-VBT suffered a tyre blowout on landing just after 1500 local at OOL. Believe aircraft taxied to the bay OK but runway was closed for about 10 minutes to remove debris.

VBT was still parked at OOL at 2pm this afternoon, had tarps over the wing and people working underneath.

is VBT VB aircraft. I know some one who was on board says the tire blew on take off and it was decided to fly to destination.

They have to land the plane either way, so might as well continue to the destination if no hydraulic systems appear have been damaged rather than landing at the origin and disrupting the pax even more!

Cheers

Is there any point by which it would be diverted to an airport with a longer runway or better emergency or repair facilities etc. or is a tyre blowout not as dangerous as it sounds?

*Reminding you i'm STILL only a passenger*

Also keep in mind, in the case of blow outs during take-off, often the airline isn't sure it is actually their aircraft - it's often suspected due to ATC/Safety Officers discovering parts on the departure runway.

Given that they don't know & there is no sign of damage, the a/c often continue to their original destination to avoid disruption to pax.

If the original destination is to a non-remote airport (as OOL is) then it would be a big call to divert if there is quite possibly no a/c damage.
