Any word what Virgin are doing for the International Tiger B738s? Are they sending their own current aircraft to Christchurch for reconfig? I see VH-YFK is gone for over 7 weeks now

Yes that is still in the No.1 hangar on the hoist.

Thanks. So do you mean yes it's in the hanger but not sure what they're doing, or yes it's being reconfigured in the hanger?

Considering YFK is not an internationally configured aircraft (i.e no overhead life raft stowage, extra signalling equipment and I do believe it has lower thrust rating engines) could just be in for a heavy check.

Yes they won't transfer any VH-YF* 738's to Tiger.

You will find that the three that are transferred, are already seen on the routes to Denpasar as they are already equipped as stated.

I would bet the likely candidates could be between VOO VOP VOR VOY VUB VUD VUH or something like that - they are owned?? not leased, they are older, and are already used on the routes to DPS. So why not push them over to Tiger.

If they want younger 738's for some reason, then the VH-YI*'s are the candidates.

VUY and VUZ could even be candidates.

VOQ VUF VUG have not been used to DPS for quite a while - so not sure if they are still equipped. And VOX VUM & VUN used to be equipped, but have left the fleet.

VUB is heading to TSV now.

Maybe a repaint? The QF retro roo II is due to be revealed on Monday so VUB might be the next aircraft in.

I really hope the "TAI" aircraft are YI.. series. The VO.. or VU.. aircraft don't have the good stuff like ACARS and good SATCOM, whic h is very handy on DPS flights. The ex PB aircraft have had a hard life, as evidenced by patches, flattened tailskids etc.

The former, not sure what they are doing to it.

Am I correct in my suspicion that VOR will emerge from Seletar as a Tiger?

Zac M
24th November 2015, 01:58 PM
Doubt it, VOP recently went to Seletar for MX as well. I would guess (and purely a guess) that VUD and VUH will be the other two, as they are ex Pacific Blue birds which have always moved around together since new...again just a guess, but thats what I would say!

Hi,

VH-VOR ferried from BNE to TSV last night - presumably for paint as the next 738 for Tigerair?

VH-VOY ferried from MEL to Seletar also - presumably for preparations for Tigerair?

Can anybody confirm?

Regards,

Steve S

Ummm.... "which clocks in at almost six hours and was one of the longest routes served by narrowbody aircraft "

someone hasn't heard of the 757.

from NZ blog

The first Boeing 737-8FE in service will be VH-VUB ex ZK-PBJ which was painted into Tigerair livery last year and has sat in MEL since awaiting Tigerair service.

The second Boeing in Tigerair livery will be VH-VOR ex ZK-PBF which completed its last VA revenue service yesterday Sunday 31-January-2016 when it arrived into Brisbane as VA1496 from Hamilton Island, it then positioned to Townsville as VA9901 where it entered the Flying Colours hangar for the repaint.

The third and final Boeing to enter Tigerair service is expected to be VH-VOO ex ZK-PBA (an aircraft I experienced twice in the last week)

From VASource

7th February 2016 - VH-VOR Returns from Townsville Maintenance in tigerair Colours.
Boeing 737-8FE VH-VOR, which has been under maintenance at Townsville since 30th January, positioned Townsville - Melbourne this morning as VA9930. The aircraft has been repainted into tigerair livery.

VAI has a lot of aircraft out of service for a long time, and Tigerair have a lot of cabin crew not working productively for a long time all for the addition of 4 seats to these 737s.

Tigerair cabin crew who will fly 737 have long ceased flying A320 to observe and train as supernumerary crew on VA 737s, and we're still a month and half from launch.

There is a lot more to it than just 4 extra seats, YPM will jump for the Bali routes while ASKs will go up on the more profitable redeployed aircraft routes. Tiger reported $13.9M EBIT this morning, a significant turnaround in performance.

Evening all,

Sorry to drag this topic back up.

VH-VUD ferried up to Townsville on Saturday afternoon as 'VA9901'. Could this be another one to be repainted into Tiger colours?

Yusef D

makes sense, also one of the ex- Pacific Blue aircraft, like VUB, VOY, VOR.

Just letting you know that VH-VUD was ferried TSV-MEL as VOZ9902 this morning after being repainted into the Tiger colours. As far as I am aware, this aircraft will be used for training until December when it will then be entered into service (Domestic).

I just love how Virgin crew and staff learn what's going on from pages like these. The E Jets are going... more 737 flying to cover CBR/ADL/HVB/AYQ. A330 going international... more 737 flying to cover transcon... but we're also losing 737s..???

Are you saying the company isn't telling you guys things? Or that these forums are misinformed? Genuine question, not having a dig.

In preparation for the 40 737 MAX 8's that they ordered ;) The VO's and the VU's are being transferred to Tiger as they are the oldest aircraft in their current fleet, I'm assuming that the YI's will be transferred to Domestic Ops once they receive the new MAX's. :)

Being public companies, of course the first you're going to learn of it is through the media or pages like this.

I think you're forgetting Coffs Harbour as it gets E190's every day

Yusef, you do know that there are a lot of limitations in what you can be told, because of Virgin being a public company right?

I know it's frustrating, because I work for another part of the group. But some stuff the only way you will find out is through the media or announcements on the day by the company, because if anyone told you beforehand, they could go to gaol.

I assure you I am au fait with the laws of continual disclosure. VAH has announced to the market that 14 airframes will be removed from the VAA 737 fleet, satisfying market disclosure laws. Telling crews which airframes and when would not violate those laws.

Will the 737 MAX's be used at regional airports in NSW as I am from Coffs Harbour

There's a difference between fulfilling their legal obligations to advise the ASX first, which is a legitimate step to prevent insider trading etc, vs employees finding out in the media. The problem, IMHO, is one to be worn equally by the company and by the media outlets who don't allow any company the time and space to communicate to its staff after notifying the ASX.

The Tiger call sign on the airbands has changed from "Go Cat" to what sounds like "Sig Oz". Can someone please confirm the change, what the actual call sign is and the reason for the change.

Many thanks.

It's Tigoz, but no idea why. I'm not sure what the Singaporean or Taiwanese airlines are using but perhaps it's to be more consistent with those?

May explain the change

Tigerair Singapore and Scoot to move to single operating licence

Tigerair Singapore’s colours and livery will be consigned to the history books from the middle of 2017 as its operations are integrated with fellow low-cost carrier Scoot under a single brand and operating licence.

The process of bringing together the operations of Tigerair Singapore and Scoot under the Scoot brand was expected to be “realised” in the second half of 2017, the airlines’ said in a statement on Friday. The single brand covered flight scheduling and connections, a common website, contact centre and check-in counters.

The move continues the coming together of the two carriers – both are already under common management after parent Singapore Airlines (SIA) created a single holding company Budget Aviation Holdings to own and manage the two airlines in May 2016

From original article:

“The 4th 737 aircraft will initially be used for crew training purposes in order to support our international services to Bali and then for additional domestic flying over the summer months on popular routes,” the Tigerair spokesperson said.
