Army aircraft spotted a man hanging from a burning car and rushed to save him.
Last night a man's car crashed into a tree a burst into flames near Cooyar.
The 85-year-old driver who was the sole occupant, was later flown by Life Flight to the Royal Brisbane Hospital and is in a serious condition.
Crew in the Army aircraft had seen the fire and after a close flyby, spotted the injured man hanging out of the car.
A landing was made and he was pulled from the wreckage.
The car exploded not long afterwards.
A spokesman for police said investigations suggested about 6.45pm a car travelling north along Middleton Rd left the road and collided with a tree and subsequently burst into flames.
