I've just noticed an extra flight from Hong Kong to Sydney on this date. Does anyone know why there would be an extra flight just for this date? Is there a special event or charter happening?

Could just be an aircraft repositioning.

That'd be to do with QF188's move from a day flight to a night flight. I believe QF188 is operating that morning aswell, with the incoming QF187 turned around to operate QF198 that night.

When is it moving to a night flight?
128 still shows as the 744 night flight...and 188 as the day flight, which changes to flight 88 sometime int he future?

Looks like from 3 August onwards. Departing Hong Kong at 11:20pm, arriving in Sydney at 10:30am the next day.
Guess that means there is no longer a QF connection to Sydney in HK if you're catching QF30 from LHR.

The changes are only for during the olympics.
By SEP QF187/188 ops will return to normal.
