QF10 diverts to SIN

I flew from Siem Reap via Singapore to Sydney overnight and spotted a QANTAS A380 in the Singapore Changi cargo area after landing. When later walking from terminal 2 to 3 I saw from terminal 1 the A380 taxiing, possibly for take off at appoximately 22:30 - 22:45.

There is a flight QFA6003 operated by VH-OQB which is listed as a positioning flight on 16R today (thanks Grahame for a great service). It then operated the late running QFA127 today.

Seems like they were almost the same distance from Perth as Singapore when deciding to divert. Any reason for a preference to go to Singapore. Better A380 facilities?

You'd expect so, possibly maybe able to get a loan engine from SQ (?) and also based on the time they would have been arriving better alternatives for customers, as I think arriving in Perth there would have been some pretty extensive waits for east coast bound customers

Yeah, as Zac suggests, it seems like the arrival of QF10 dovetailed well with at least some of the SIN-Australia departures, meaning many of the QF10 pax would've been re-accommodated fairly easily.

I also believe there is a RR presence at SIN so that may have been a factor in getting the engine repaired or replaced (as may a loan from SQ). Actually I think QF & SQ both have power-by-the-hour agreements with RR, so good chance of a replacement engine one way or the other!

Flightaware has them a lot closer to Singapore, being over the main Indonesian island of Sumatra??

From the attached plot it looks like they were heading into the southern part of the Indian Ocean and diverted way south of Cocos Is.
