Yes, a sad day indeed. Many would remember Monarch sending a 757 to assist during the pilots strike in 1988 in Australia.

Very sad for the displaced staff and passengers who need repatriation . The UK government are footing the bill in getting passengers back to the UK , having taken on arrangements with Qatar Airways , Omni Air , Evelop , Privilege Style and a few other airlines to get them back home . It's comforting to a degree that Easy Jet have 500 cabin staff vacancies they are offering and also direct entry Captain positions at both Gatwick and Luton . Virgin Atlantic have also pledged to fast track any aircrew applications too . Monarch were very much an airline with a long history , over 50 yrs of existence , which makes their demise seem even sadder .
