A350-1000 , reg F-WLXV is currently in DOH on its first leg of the tour . It’s painted in the carbon fibre scheme and is using the callsign AIB 349. It should be due in Sydney around 9th February after leaving the Singapore Airshow held between 6-8 February . After leaving SYD , it’s only Australian destination , it will depart for AKL before flying back to TLS via Manila . One to look out for ..

It looks like it's got a stopover in Bangkok before it gets to Sydney, so the 10th seems the more likely arrival date for Sydney. I've read suggestions that it's at Auckland on the 11/12th February.

Looking at that press release, I think Airbus need a new photographer....I'll volunteer my services when they get here ;)

No doubt trying to pitch it to Qantas as part of Project Sunrise

I think the Airbus A350-1000 is short on range for that sort of flight . I would anticipate it would be seen more as a 747 replacement if anything .

Airbus were pitching the A350-900ULR.

Same thing isn’t it? Just a few extra fuel tanks?

Not quite. The -1000 is a (7m, 40 seat) stretched version of the -900, with (fairly substantially) updated engines, new landing gear and a modified wing.

The -900ULR is a -900 with more fuel tanks.

Bangkok is before the Singapore air show where it’s on static display from 6-8th, suggesting 9th for departure to Sydney.

Looks like its heading to BKK after SIN which is different to their tour graphic but makes sense timing wise.

Yeah sorry you are right Rowan, I confused myself with the -900 and -1000 differences.

The Airbus A350-1000 Takes the Singapore Airshow Spotlight

As the only widebody airliner on display on the show’s static park, the newly certified A350-1000 takes top billing at the Singapore Airshow, where it flew in from Hanoi as part of a 12-city tour of Asia and the Middle East. Billed as a modern and more efficient replacement for the Boeing 777-300ER, the Airbus A350-1000 fills what the European airframer believes became a gap in the legacy 777’s capacity range left when its U.S. competitor decided to start with a baseline of more than 400 seats for its 777X.

Thanks David and Greg, the Apron lighting helps a lot when it's quite dark.

When you're visiting 12 destinations and traveling more than 55,000 kilometres, you need a day off somewhere on the Demonstration Tour. Airbus A350-1000 F-WLXV on a Crew Rest Day at the Qantas Jet Base at Sydney Airport - Flying day tomorrow :D

Airbus showcases A350-1000 in Sydney

Airbus showcased its Airbus A350-1000 to Qantas in Sydney on Monday morning during the type’s first visit to Australia.

The biggest member of the Airbus’s A350 XWB family was in Sydney as part of a world tour ahead of the type’s first delivery to launch customer Qatar Airways on February 20.

The aircraft, MSN065 F-WLXV, is Airbus’s third A350-1000 flight test airframe, and operated a short return flight from Sydney Airport with a number of Qantas senior executives onboard, including Qantas Group chief executive Alan Joyce.

Qantas is particularly interested in the A350 design for its Project Sunrise requirement for an aircraft capable of flying nonstop from the east coast of Australia to both London and New York (for which Boeing is expected to offer a development of its Boeing 777-8X). The aircraft will also be demonstrated to Air New Zealand in Auckland on Tuesday, while in the past Virgin Australia has also shown interest in Airbus’s newest widebody design.

“When we look at the total [A350] backlog 35 per cent of the total orders of the A350 belong to customers in Asia Pacific,” head of A350 marketing Marisa Lucas-Ugena told media ahead of the demonstration flight.

The Crew said they would get up early, and they didn't disappoint - Airbus A350-1000 departing Sydney for Auckland this afternoon. The Middle East and Asia Pacific Tour continues, and from Auckland it is Tokyo, Manila, and home to Toulouse.
