Looks like QF have pulled out of OOL on the qt and done the dirty on local employees at the same time. My better half (who is ex QF)was going to travel OOL to Sydney on QF but only Jetstar is left. She found a lone remaining QF employee who she knew and got the scoop whic was that they just came in took down the signs/turned out the lights and told the employee's that their jobs were history.
Yes this is second hand information but based on what she was told by the employee things were pretty bad for long time QF ground staff at that location. Just fyi.

Hi Mike,
I believe QF made the announcement of staff cuts at the same time the route was due to close (in June? I believe).
They mentioned that JQ qould not be continuing with the QF staff contracts.

Anyone notice DJ have quietly dropped 2 daily MEL-OOL and a daily MEL-MCY service until September? Other routes such as MEL-HBA will be receiving an extra daily service from the end of August.

Thats right.
In the domestic market, Mr Dixon said:
* Qantas would exit its Gold Coast-Sydney and Ayers Rock-Melbourne routes and reduce Ayers Rock-Sydney services from August;
* Jetstar would exit its Sydney-Whitsunday Coast, Adelaide-Sunshine Coast, and Brisbane-Hobart routes from July; and
* Jetstar would reduce services on some Adelaide, Avalon and Cairns routes by August.

It was announced that Qantas was canning OOL.
All staff knew it was happening.
They just didnt take down the sign and turn off the lights, There was over a Months notice to everyone even the General Public.

Way too much competition on MEL-OOL, and MEL-MCY for Virgin.

Passed thru OOL last Thursday and noticed the Qantas Club is now closed permanently (sign says "sorry for the inconvenience" - yeah, right !!!).
All vestages of QF ever being in OOL have completely dissapeared, such a sad end of a fabled era which saw TAA, Australian and Qantas service the city, sad news for the loyal local staff though, but hopefully JQ/DJ/TR will pick them up as services on those carriers expand.
