Does anyone know what's wrong with ZNG as she hasn't flown since the 24/1?

Looks like its causing a few issues with the network with QF29 cancelled today & 744's are having to sub in for some sectors out of Melb which should have been done by 789 i.e. MEL-SFO 31/1 was operated by OEH

I believe it was damaged, not sure when, where or how.

Wow that’s not good news if that’s the case given how new the aircraft is & not to mention the cost involved to fix it!

It was a set of maintenance stairs, around 24 Jan. I believe it’ll be out of action for another couple of weeks for repairs.

Thanks Rowan for the update.
Geez not a good result given how new the aircraft is & already needing repairs for an incident with should not have taken place.
QF29 cancelled again today

Heard they were runaway stairs from the virgin terminal that hit the 787

Accidents happen. It’s not what I would call major damage.

Very true Mick!
Any update on a date of when she will be returning to service?

Sounds similar to the recent (2016) Brisbane storm where runaway stairs took out a few aircraft https://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/plane-thrashed-as-wild-storms-hit-brisbane-airport/news-story/5d770e1ff05376e33e4c877d1f094463

It begs the question as the the complexities of repairing a carbon fibre airframe compared to a conventional type .

Minor damage on a 737 can turn out to be major damage on a 787 . A repair taking maybe a day on a conventional type can turn into weeks on a carbon fibre airframe . As more 787’s enter service , this incidence will obviously become more commonplace .
