FNP now on the ground at Sharjah SHJ
Thanks Guys
HRI just didn't look right for parting out.
Based on the items I posted, more people visit the terminal rather than fly-in/out.

Virgin B738 VH-VUH is due to depart XSP shortly as VA9948 flying non-stop to BNE following maintenance. It is due to resume service tomorrow 31/3/21.

Looks like the final fleet for VOZ and VARA will land on 75 for now

Did I miss something?
A320 VNP still in the Philippines
Only ones not currently flying are B738 - VUY, YVC, VUX
Dave J
4th April 2021, 08:12 AM
There are additional 738’s that will be added to that list. The registrations of these additional jets will differ from their previous registration though.
VUX is still in MEL without engines.
VUY in BNE
YVC being prepared for RTS over the next few weeks.
I don’t know what’s happening with VNP.

FNP was deleted from the reg on 01/04 as exported to Greece

Excellent graph of the Virgin fleet, Radi. I agree with all of your fleet details. Thanks so much for sharing.
I also wonder what has happened to VH-VNP. As it has been in CRK for so long I thought that it may have been returned to lessor or broken up, if not actually owned by VARA but it still looks to be registered in Australia.
I see that VH-VUE has relocated from MEL to BNE on 3/4/21 in readiness for return to service. Thanks Dylan.

Ex-VA VH-VUC has been cancelled from the CASA register (Exported to Guernsey). The aircraft is in TNA reportedly for a freighter conversion.
VH-VUC now carries 2-VVUC

It appears that, although its still on the CASA register, Ex Tiger B737 VH-VOY has now been re-registered 2-VVOY and is also reported to be in line for a freighter conversion.

5th April 2021, 10:01 PM
Tristan,
I found 2-VVUC on the current 2-Reg.
2-VVOY doesn't appear as yet.
2-VVOY, I expect is reserved and won't take up that reg until it is deleted from the Aust Register.
VH-VUC was deleted from the Aust. Reg on 19/03 and added to 2-Reg on the same date

Interesting, thanks. I know VUC remained on the CASA register for some time after it left Australia.
I found VOY at Jinan when searching for images of VUC and it was tagged as 2-VVOY:

While I cannot see it on the image, it appears that something has been taped over the rego - perhaps the paperwork hasn't been done yet.
Cheers.

That’ll possibly be the new rego just taped over the old VH- one

Yeah, most likely. Guess when it's parked it doesn't really matter if the new rego hasn't been entered into systems :)

VH-VUE is set to return to service today and will operate VA1388 BNE ADL.
First RPT service since 7 September 2020.

Guys,
Basically it can't (shouldn't) be two registers at the same time. It is uneconomic since you are paying for both registrations.
The QQ E-190's are normally deleted from the US reg on the day they arrive in Brisbane. It is then QQ's responsibility to get them onto the Aust. reg.
Also, the 2-REG is a "flag of convenience" until freighter conversion and a new "owner" is sort.

Hi Greg.. I was not saying it was .. just appears that they have put the new 2- rego on her before its actually been added to the 2- register.

Nothing to do with economics, not when registration is $160 for a VH Mark. Its an ICAO requirement that an aircraft does not appear on two contracting states at the same time.

For those who remember, back in September last year a company called Jet Test re-positioned 5 VA 738s from BNE to Goodyear, AZ. They positioned a further 2 from MEL in December.
The owner of Jet Test has just tweeted that in the coming weeks Jet Test will be repositioning 3 738s to BNE.
I am assuming they are for VA which makes me wonder if they are 3 of the ex-VA 7 B738s stored in Phoenix.
Anyone know anymore?

Tristan, are the other two B738s you refer to that flew to GYR in December, the ex VUI & VUJ?
Of the five ex YF* aircraft 2-VYFN is the only one so far to have done a test flight since arriving in the US - a 1 hour 36 minute flight over Arizona from Goodyear on 7/4/21.

Yep - VUI and VUJ (N341CG and N343CG) .. they were from a different lessor though I believe.

I'm getting a bit confused by these movements.
I thought Virgin Australia Mk.2 intended to settle on 56 B737s for its operations. We've seen 52 in Perth so far this year - VUE and -YIW are yet to be seen and I very much doubt that we'll see -VBY and -VBZ.
So if 5 airframes are coming back from the USA does mean that V A intends to increase its fleet size or could they be replacements for existing airframes ?
Greg Hyde
9th April 2021, 10:28 AM
I had read earlier this week that VA had all their a/c flying.
This would explain the need for extra a/c.

VA announced in March that they were looking to lease '8 or 9' additional aircraft: https://www.smh.com.au/business/companies/virgin-australia-to-boost-fleet-on-hopes-of-rapid-travel-recovery-20210315-p57ax4.html

Just about Greg. Of the B738s that are remaining in the Virgin fleet, VH-VUX & VUY are still to return to service, VUX reported to have no engines as recently as 4/4/21. YVC is currently in HKG for maintenance and on return it is presumed that it will return to the VA fleet.
This totals 56 now flying and 3 to return to make 59.

Yes I also have 59 in the current fleet.
With 5 (of the 8 or 9 to be added back to the fleet) returning from the USA with new rego's (ex YFG, YFI, YFN, YFO, YFP) bringing it to 64.
* Plus 3 or 4 more and I wouldn't mind guessing it will be YFE, YFH, YFJ. That would also mean that none of the sky interior 738's were withdrawn.

Interesting comment about the Virgin sky interior B738s, Steve. Do all the YF*, YI*, YV* & YW* aircraft have this lighting feature and none of the VB*, VO*, VU* aircraft?

All of the Y**'s have sky interior, while none of the V**'s have it.

Reading elsewhere that VH-VFN will be the first to come back, and will be registered VH-YQM. Should depart Goodyear on Saturday.
James Smith

I agree, Tristan. 2-VYFN is the only one, so far, to have had a test flight. Pity that the five wont all come back 15 minutes apart, like they departed.

In the first post that is the OPPOSITE of the topic of this thread....
2-VYFN (ex- VH-YFN, to be VH-YQM) is currently en route from PHX to HNL as JTN79
The first hop was from GYR (where she was stored) to PHX as apparently fuel is cheaper in PHX than GYR!

So 5 from Phoenix, 3 from Wellcamp - is that all to return to the fleet at the moment? I believe that's all the VH-Y** registered aircraft that had left the fleet.

The only ones currently not flying as far as I can see:
YQO/YQR/YQG/YQH (ex. YFQ/YFP/YFG/YFI) = GYR
YFE/YFJ/YFH = WTB
YQM (ex. YFN), VUY = BNE
VUX = MEL

Interesting article by Simple Flying today, calls out 10 aircraft will return to the VA fleet. We have accounted for 8 - leaving 2. VOT/VUA/VUB are still in MEL, VOQ/VOR/VUD in ASP, VOS in BNE.
Also calls out that the A320s will move from VARA to VA .. does that mean VARA will just operate the F100s?
https://simpleflying.com/virgin-australia-growth-plans
Side note: love the shot of the Split Scimitar winglet in the article!
Yusef D

A320s not moving, just being used on mainline routes again, still VARA operated.

YVC will re-enter service next week after quite some time. Last flight was ADL - BNE 22nd July 2020.
It will be replaced in HKG maintenance by YIJ
YIO will be next through XSP
FYI, both VUX and VUY will get up and running over the next couple of months. Both will obviously go through either HKG or XSP Heavy Maintenance. Obviously VUX will need a coat of paint too.
Tristan S
19th April 2021, 09:42 PM
Am I right in saying that the financed/owned aircraft undergo maintenance in XSP, and leased aircraft in HKG? or does it depend on the lessor?

Sometimes they might just outsource the ferry to a company who will then take care of the rest.

VOT is not one of the B738s that Virgin wanted to keep. Could it be the next aircraft for REX, is it being prepared for return to the lessor (SMS Solvings Pty Ltd) or repositioned for another reason.

Outside of the two stored in BNE, the remaining ATRs are all over the place...
4 stored in MRG - ATR-72-600s (FVN/FVP/FVQ/FVR) EDIT: just noticed Greg's post on these birds.

Thanks so much for keeping the group informed of updates and maintenance for the Virgin fleet, Dave. We really appreciate it. It is good to see movement planned for VUX and VUY.
Do you happen to know when VUR will return to service now that it has had its maintenance in SIN. Also, will YFE be sent for maintenance once YFH returns from CRK with YFJ to follow later on?
Lastly, do you know when 2-VYFI & G will be returning from the US? I see that 2-VYFG has been in Kansas City (MCI) for over two weeks now, which could be for more than planned maintenance, before it has to cross the Pacific. Thanks again for the information that you post.

VH-VBY returned to BNE from XSP last night 9/6/21 as VA9948 and is back in service today and scheduled to operate 5 services, the first being VA1235 to ROK.
No movement for VH-VUY as yet.

A huge day and so much maintenance activity currently for Virgin in getting the additional B738s into service. Their maintenance bill for the last 6 months must be astronomical. I wonder if they are working to a deadline to have the additional eight aircraft back on deck.
Do we know as yet where VH-YFE is heading to after DRW? EDIT: Thanks Tristan. YFE is heading to HKG for maintenance.
Virgin's maintenance schedule currently has two aircraft in Kansas City, MCI (2-VYFG & I), two in CRK (one going to and another coming from CRK) (YFH & YFJ), one heading to HKG from DRW (YFE), one heading to HKG (VUY), one being painted in TSV and then to HKG (VUX), one just returned from XSP (VBY) and one still to return to service after maintenance in XSP (VUR).

YFE now showing as heading to HKG after DRW. Remembering that this isn't a Virgin aircraft, its still with the lessor.

Thanks Tristan for the update. Is the lessor responsible for maintenance to an aircraft prior to it returning to the carrier or does it depend on the contract agreed to? When does the hand over take place? Once the aircraft is back in BNE or at the maintenance airport? Would they use Virgin tech staff to fly the aircraft to and from maintenance?

Someone more in the know would need to confirm, but my understanding it's the responsibility of the lessor before its handed over to the airline. As for handover, I guess that would be up to to the lessor/airline. The jets that are coming back from the US were flown by Jet Test, for example, back to Australia and rego changed in Australia.

Thanks for the heads up, Jamie. VUY has just landed back in DRW after a 1 hour and 10 minutes flight time and looks to have been at cruising altitude of 40,000 for only 10 minutes or so. I hope that the aircraft is not held up for too long in DRW like VH-VUC which returned and stayed there for over a month before moving on to freighter conversion.

It positioned to CNS from HKG yesterday, but the flight CNS BNE was cancelled and its still in CNS.
It was scheduled to operate flights from Wednesday onwards, but these all have been removed.

VQ-BTK will be the new rego, not surprised she is back in service, a little bit more attractive than the rest of the fleet as she has the large cargo door option.

VH-VUR is currently performing its test flight out to sea from BNE as VA9928 and is currently at 15,000 feet. What was a planned 42 minute flight will be over 2 hours by the time it touches down. The B738 climbed to and remained at 40,000 feet but has had some lengthy speed variations at and between 300 and 550 knots during the flight.

It looks as though VUR did a go around on very short final for runway 19L at BNE, followed by a tight circuit to land on 19L. Not sure if this was part of the test flight or an ATC directive. The flight was just over two and a half hours.

Interestingly the ATRs that have moved are all 500s, wonder why, perhaps initial cost was cheaper so the lease rates are lower? The heavy lift two are coming up to end of lease as well, and none of the Air NZ birds have attracted interest.
