View Full Version : QF Freight Movements

With so much going on with QF at the moment I thought it was wise to split out the freighter movements.
What we know:
*QF has 2 x A330-200's under freighter conversion:
VH-EBE is in DRS under conversion and is expected to rejoin the fleet this calender year
VH-EBF is in PUS for a repaint and expected to rejoin the fleet later this month (Sep)
*QF has 8 X A321P2F's on order with a delivery schedule (based on QF FY23 Annual Report) and subject to change
FY24 x 3
FY25 x 2
FY26 x 3
I have recently read that 2 x A321P2F could join the fleet this calendar year.

Haven't heard anything specific but you would expect that the B737F & B767F days would be numbered as the "new" a/c come online.

Might be some delays with the A321s given operators of certain Airbus A321 converted freighters are being instructed to implement a tighter inspection regime for potential fatigue cracks in the centre wing-box rear lower spar area.

According to Flightaware, VH-EBE was scheduled to perform a EFW test flight DRS-DRS of 1.5 hours on Friday afternoon, local European time, but as it is now after 22:00 there it looks as though the flight has been postponed. It could be flown in the next few days which means that EBE has had its conversion completed and will shortly be leaving DRS, probably via PUS like EBF, for a repaint on its journey home.

B734F VH-XNH looks as though it has returned to service operating QF7308 MEL-ADL on the morning of 3/7/24 and returning ADL-MEL as QF7380 on turnaround.
It then operated QF7357 MEL-HBA early this morning 4/7/24 and is scheduled to operate HBA-MEL in the early hours of tomorrow morning 5/7/24 with the same flight number.

Thanks Greg. My thoughts as well. No use sending her to BXM prematurely when problems can quickly cause unserviceabilities. Interesting that they retired the B733Fs before retiring the B734F. It could have been related to hours and avoiding additional maintenance costs but still gives them a little more capacity.

XNH retirement is slated for August this year. The aircraft has been on extended maintenance at the moment. The reason behind leaving the last B734 in service is due to capacity on the main deck. It is not too much difference to the A321

From Ch-Aviation
Qantas Group has retired its last owned B737-400(SF), with VH-XNH (msn 24796) bowing out on August 15 after operating a roundtrip service between Melbourne Tullamarine and Hobart International. The group began using the 34-year-old aircraft in 2017.
Wholly-owned Qantas Group subsidiary Express Freighters Australia (QE, Sydney Kingsford Smith) operated the aircraft on behalf of Qantas Freight (Sydney Kingsford Smith), which used it to carry parcels and mail under an Australia Post contract. For the time being, Qantas Freight continues to use wet-leased Airwork Flight Operations (AWK, Auckland International) B737-400SFs.
"The retirement of these B737 classics makes way for a new era of larger and more fuel-efficient A321-200(P2F)s," Qantas Group posted on its social media platforms this week.
Qantas Freight now operates six A321F(P2F)s, all wet leased from Express Freighters Australia. That subsidiary also operates two A330-200(P2F)s and one B767-300F for
Qantas Freight. It’s stored so their systems still associate it with the airline I imagine

Yeah most airline databases show the aircraft as still belonging to an airline until it is either sold or scrapped.

Great shots Lloyd and nice meeting you today. The Toll (AirWork) ones are still around but are all registered in New Zealand (although I haven’t seen one in Brisbane for a few months).

Airworks entire fleet is now domiciled in NZ and stopped the domestic night flights a few months ago for Toll (end of May) after they lost the contract, some still doing flights across the ditch but their Chinese parent company has put some of the fleet up for sale due to an outstanding debt

They had 5 757s on lease in Russia which are now considered write offs.

Qantas gears up for Christmas as more freight expected this year
Qantas Freight is preparing to ramp up operations for the busy holiday period, with freight volumes expected to increase by five per cent from last year.
The Flying Kangaroo expects to deliver more than 50,000 tonnes of international and domestic freight over the holiday season, with its domestic freighter fleet to fly around 550 additional hours across November and December, adding 3,000 tonnes of domestic capacity.
One of the airline’s six A321 freighters, VH-XF4, has been decorated in a seasonal “Santa’s Freight” livery to mark the holidays, with the domestic freighter fleet alone expected to fly more than 11 million kilometres combined this year.
“We’ve increased flying hours, and we’ll have more support, extra capacity and our very own ‘Santa’s Freight’ aircraft to deliver more than 50 million kilos of freight this Christmas,” said Igor Kwiatkowski, executive manager at Qantas Freight.
“We’ll be spending the next few weeks flying gifts, cards, and perishables like mangoes and prawns across the country, and the world, and we’re delighted to play this important role for what is a really special time for families.”
Qantas Freight operates a fleet of five international and 20 domestic freighters, with its dedicated Australia Post fleet to temporarily increase from 12 to 16 for the holiday season. The airline expects to carry around one million kilograms of cargo per day on the busiest days leading up to Christmas, a 70 per cent increase on normal daily volumes.
The airline this year increased cargo capacity between Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand with its converted Airbus freighters, and added Melbourne to one of its weekly trans-Tasman freighter routes in order to “open up capacity from southern states into New Zealand”.
“Demand for freight services is rising, particularly in Asia, and we’re looking at several options to extend the A330 freighter schedule to more places in Asia as we want to meet that need now and into the future,” said Kwiatkowski in September.
“These changes give freight customers in Australia, New Zealand and Asia more opportunity through greater frequency of services and the enhanced capacity of our Airbus fleet.”
Qantas received both of its converted A330-200 freighters, VH-EBE and VH-EBF, last year following their retrofit from passenger services; both aircraft previously flew passenger flights for Qantas and Jetstar.
