Does anyone know what is being built (or re-built?) at the domestic terminal's P1 carpark, and in the area between 6th and 7th Avenues near the domestic terminal's taxi carpark waiting area?

Both spots seem to be the site of some fairly major works.

Thanks in advance.

Structural issues were discovered at P1, which is why it's been closed for so long. The work is to deliver a safe carpark

I think Robbie was also asking about the demolition of buildings near Sixth and Seventh Streets.

Regarding P1.

Thanks for the info. I'll miss P1 - I still recall the fuselage-style walkways to the terminals in the 1970s!

Indeed I was. That's a prime chunk of YSSY real estate. I think it will be used for private purposes, not as part of airport/airfield operations. Not sure what it was used for previously.

Haven't been there for about six weeks but judging by the e-mail I just got, it seems they decided not to rebuild P1 (at least not at the moment), but instead just pave it* and call it "P1 Prime Park", an open-air carpark.

I'm kind of both surprised and not surprised at the same time.

* Okay yes I'm being a bit flippant, presumably there's a bunch of civil work with drainage and lighting and car park systems et. al., but that's what makes it surprising as this clearly is not a long term solution and clearly not "redevelopment of the site as a catalyst for improving the experience for customers and operators in the precinct".

I agree this seems a temporary quick fix while longer term planning and approvals are put in place.

Their announcements about the at-grade carpark's opening are now being clearer about this, saying "The long-term development pathway for the P1 site will be determined through Sydney Airport’s Master Plan process, which will go on public exhibition in 2025."

Seems even the temporary solution is not quite done, with an additional 74 spaces becoming available in March.

Thanks for the info, Kent and Robert.

I'll probably be down at YSSY in the new few days or weeks, but maybe not until after the New Year. I will have a look at the progress that's being made.
