I was scheduled to travel on DJ899 last night (31/8/08) from MEL to SYD, leaving at 9.15pm. I received a text from Virgin Blue at 7.40pm asking to call regarding as my flight was cancelled. They couldn't put me on an earlier flight that night as they were all full, however rebooked me on DJ807 this morning (1/9/08) departing 6.45am. They provided accommodation free of charge for all affected passengers, including me, at the Melbourne Airport Hilton. Their organisation and courtesy was faultless and I witnessed no angry passengers while I was at the terminal anyway.
When arriving at the terminal this morning, I noticed the 6.15am to Sydney was cancelled (probably the plane from my cancelled flight last night), as well as a morning departure to the Gold Coast. An arriving flight from Adelaide at about 7.45am was also showing as cancelled.
Can anyone shed some light on the reason for the cancellations, specifically DJ899 on 31/8/08? I didn't ask at the airport, but I assumed it may have been that the delay may have meant it would arrive after Sydney's curfew? They pushed back the preceding 8.15pm flight to 8.55pm, presumably to accommodate some passengers from DJ899.
