Just wondering if someone could answer these questions for me:
1. Is a business points upgrade allowed on a QF domestic Red e-Deal fare which is not on sale. (ie. a full priced red e-deal fare).
2. If I use points successfully to get a business upgrade on a domestic flight but I'm only a bronze FF, can I get into the Qantas Club?

No Red E-Deals are Upgradeable, you can try at the QANTAS Club.
Upgrades can be done before the Airport which would give you access to the Business Class Lounge. In the Domestic Terminals.
QANTAS Club is only available to Club Members, Platimum & Gold Frequent Flyers.

Maybe the rules have changed, but I remember back in 2003 when I upgraded my Red E-Deal to Business Class, and I also had access to the lounge (not a member, and only Bronze FF).

Business class passengers can enter the lounge, irrespective of their FF status.

The quick way to remember it is Never On Qantas, so if you have a N, O, or Q fare class then you cannot do an upgrade. Some international sale fares are cheaper than red-e fares but don't book into N, O, or Q and are therefore upgradable (strange but true).
If you do upgrade to business you will get access to the new Business Lounge in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane or a Qantas Club everywhere else. With the current state of lounge capacity often the gate is a better place to be than the lounge at times.
