Hi all

Cany anyone tell me the best places/airports around Sydney to get some good GA photos?

I have tried Bankstown on a few occasions, but never been able to get the stuff I like from under the end of the runways.

Never tried Hoxton, but activity there is pretty light on.

Thought about Camden, Wollongong, Wanervale? Bankstown is the most accessible in regards to take off and landings. You can either go to the viewing parking area or you can go to the bunnings car park.

Thanks Brendan.

I had not thought about Warnervale, I had thought about Camden, but I recall access is limited.

I am planning on doing some GA photography in a few weeks, I would like to make the best of a rare moment of spare time.

Might try Warnervale, although looking at their site there is not likely to be anything out of the ordinary there

Steve,

I have been to Warnervale a couple of times and there are few aircraft and little action. If you go up that far you may as well go to Cessnock, there is plenty of training activity and a few interesting aircraft.

When I was there in June they were still working on the Flying Museum but it may be open by now. They were also advertising Jet Fighter Adventure Flights so that may be worth looking at.

Why don't you try Maitland as well, Cessnock and Maitland are both close by.

Thanks Grahame,

I presume those images were taken at Cessnock?

Access looks pretty good, what lens were you using on the D300?

Hi Steve,

Yes, all at Cessnock with good access and these were using a D300 with a Nikon AF-S VR 70-200 2.8G.

Thanks

Pretty well the kit I'll be using, plus the AF-S 300/f4

There are good opportunities at Albion Park (Wollongong) airport. Take a step ladder and the aircraft are generally parked right on the other side of the fence plus accessability is quite good.

Cleary Bros have their Raytheon parked in a top place for photographs plus the Beach Patrol - Westpac sponsored aircraft are based there and lots of other aircraft too.

Raytheon what Nick?

Thanks Nick.

I'm really after shots with aircraft in flight, from my recollection at Albion Park the runways are a bit to far away from the fence for that, however I stand to be corrected.

And Steve..........

You could try the southern end of Hargraves Ave for arrivals/departures over the Princes Hwy or the intersection of Princes Hwy & Illawarra Hwy you will get traffic overhead. I havent tried Croome Lane but it might be ok.

Premier 1A VH-TMA is ex N451MM that used to live on the Gold Coast - it went to states briefly before returning to a new owner back here in Australia.

It was a fairly easy transition onto the VH after VH-VHP was the first 390 put on the Aus register. Noone wanted to be first (downtime)! They are joined by N7088S and N34GN.

If you head up Croome Rd, you can access the BMX track which pretty much looks right down the guts of Rwy 34 from an elevated position.

Thanks folks,

I had pretty much figured Croome Lane might be worth a shot, depending on traffic direction.
