$1500 ORD-MEL Xmas fare on UA

Very surprised to see this fare come up now (after I paid $2100 back in May). The only reason I can think of is that they're trying to fill the plane on what is sure to be only 50% full on the LAX-Mel route over the holidays?

Over what dates is this special running ?

Dec 17th through I believe the end of Feb.

Tried a few bookings in Jan and the website came back with $3200++ :confused:

I tried it again this morning (Morning over here anyway) on the United US site. I typed in random dates of Dec 6- return Jan 3 and it gave me back $1660 this time for ORD-MEL....the outbound went through SYD. Still a good deal for that time of the year.
