A380 to visit Adelaide on September 27 for only 25 minutes, then October 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, 16 and 17, with some of those dates having two visits a day.
I'll be in Adelaide on October 4 and 5, so if anyone has further information of the A380's arrival/departure times on those dates it would be much appreciated.

Super jumbo's first Adelaide pit stop
Article from: The Advertiser
September 18, 2008 12:30am
THE world's largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, will make its first visit to Adelaide next week – staying long enough to cool its brakes.
The first Qantas A380 is expected to arrive in Sydney on Sunday morning and land at Adelaide Airport on Saturday, September 27. The giant airliner is due to land at 12.15pm that day, park on the tarmac while its brakes cool and pilots re-set its flight computer, and depart shortly after at 12.40pm.
The Qantas A380 is listed to make a further 14 flights through Adelaide Airport after that – all as part of crew training flights before the plane goes into service later in October.
Its landing and take-off can be viewed from inside the main passenger terminal.
Photographers can get a good view from the observation area at the western end of the main runway, by Tapleys Hill Rd.
The A380 is due back in Adelaide on October 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 15, 16 and 17, some of those dates having two visits a day.
Neither Qantas or Singapore Airlines – which was the first to bring the A380 into service – have plans for regular services to Adelaide, the super jumbo being significantly larger than the Boeing 747.

Fantastic thanks Lukas, apparently the Air China new special livery A330 is also scheduled to come in on Thurs 15mins after the A380, plus the current forecast for that day is sunny and warm, so we might have a perfect storm of positives happening here Thurs morning!

If it gets away on time from Adelaide at 1230, it could do an MCG flyover only minutes before the start of the game.

I was intrigued around 9.30 this morning to see The Seagull* on final approach to RWY 34L - about 3 hours after it had left Sydney as QF6006 bound for Melbourne.
After rolling out on 34L I lost sight of it until aboard VBC on taxi to the threshold of 34R when I saw it taxi into position for a 34L takeoff just after 10 am. I was lucky enough to grab a grainy photo of it disappearing into the north west as VBC banked right after its 34R takeoff.
Photos below show The Seagull just after touchdown rolling out on 34L, and then off to Brisbane only 35 minutes later.
*my nickname for the A380 - inspired by its head-on profile on approach

It was from a preceding FedEx MD-11 having an area of its left engine ripped off on touchdown i assume. Over ATC, the A380 was given a choice to go around and have the runway checked or land. As anyone would do he went round giving everyone a top photo!

Grahame, the problem they are having is that the ACARS does not 'complete' the flight if the park brake is not set and a cabin door opened. On many of these flights that does not occur.
As a result the safety pilot is calling Qantas on the VHF to advise ETAs.

Does anyone have video footage of a takeoff? Also, how long does the landing gear stay extended after a take off?
After the "full stops" in MEL and BNE the gear have been extended after takeoff to let them cool off... so was interested to see OQA take off after she had been at a bay. (0620ish ex SYD... then there has been BNE or MEL later in the day... 1500 take off?)
What is the sequence of wheels>doors for the nose, body and wing gear?

Can't answer all your questions but today (11.40am-ish) she looked to have her gear just about cleaned up by the time she was flying over the end of the airfield at Airport Dr.

Hey AJ, Its not like you to be asking the questions;)
But according to Sydneyairport.com.au nothing until the Tuesday when it will arrive from depart to Brissy as QF6002 at 6am then arrive back at 10:40am as QF6018 or perhaps from Melbourne as 6182 but the A380 has been using the QF60** callsign so id assume its from BNE.
This is all from browsing SA website for about 10mins so there are probably other flights in there i havent seen(To prevent any comments like, ("Thats incorrect").

Was a bit jealous, the Focus was on its tippy toes to see over the fence from the mound as it stood!

I looked on sydney flight information and it has QF 6003 to melbourne at 08:00, QF 6192 from melbourne at 11:15 and QF 6613 to melbourne at 1:00. So I don't know what are A380's and what are not.

IMO the first three aircraft and their schedules are all accounted for. Although MSN 026 - VH-OQD - is scheduled for delivery in QTR 1 -2009, if it is delivered prior to the commencement of the show I could see it being used on show, I could not see QF taking one of the three out of their flying schedule to be used on display. QF over the years has put little interest in the airshow apart from a jet on display on Sunday as used for a FIFO. The last time it had a jet on display over the whole airshow eg on Friday, well was ......... I cannot remember it was that long ago. Having said that you would think maybe DJ and the others could do something as well. The civil airlines show little interest in the airshow, such a shame, but then again they see it as the show does not make money for them.

Is AVV A380 ready? (...taxiways and runways wide enough). With an almost 80m wingspan it might be difficult to shuffle her in and out. I know that when we were in SIN we had to taxi out the long way to the runway because not all the taxiways have the clearance. Ive never been to the airshow but I imagine there isnt a lot of space for an A380 to do a FIFO. I hope I am wrong cos it would be a fantastic day out:cool:

That's because, despite some of the lighties and the aeros, Avalon is mainly a military airshow and is marketed as such. There is little to be gained in a marketing sense from displaying airliners at the airshow, as airliner buyers, e.g. airline execs, do not attend the show in a buying frame of mind.
Once upon a time when Qantas was government owned, the airline was almost obliged to display at airshows in order to show the taxpayers where there 'hard earned' was going. Not any more...

Apparently runway 06 for departures at the moment according to ATIS - run for most of 06 i would suggest (i'm assuming MTOW is significantly lower due to no pax).

Maximum Take Off Weight stays the same, pax or not, for the runway length available and atmosphere conditions of the day.

They're not fakes - it's just that there are galleys or bulkheads or similar against those windows so they are permanently blanked off. The window frame still exists.

Just a quick question. When the QF A380 does the Melbourne-Los Angeles run on Mondays and then returns to Melbourne on Wednesdays, does it immediately make the positional flight on Wednesday to Sydney ready for the Departure on Friday or does it make the trip to Sydney on the Thursday ready for the Friday flight. I think I can remember last week that it came to Sydney on the Wednesday.
Thanks in advance

I wonder why they don't run MEL - LAX - SYD - LAX - MEL. It would have to save them a decent amount of fuel and crew hours and they could simply use a 744 on the return route to the originating city.

Greg,
I had been wondering that as well and as Nigel says it seems way too sensible.
One thought I had was that it does give them 2 extra crew training cycles a week.
I believe SQ did the same thing with the A345 between SIN-EWR flights they would do a short service to Djarkarta to get some crew cycles in.

VH-OQA QF0093 12/11/2008 13:58 Qantas A380-842 <-<--- Melbourne-Los Angeles
and confirmed this QF93 departure on the Melbourne Airport flight information board.
Are QF now running three services a week to LAX, two from Melbourne on Monday & Wednesday, and one from Sydney on Friday.
Sometimes the A380 flight numbers do not update correctly on ACARS and I thought this may just be the positioning flight from Melbourne. Today's 1259 departure from Melbourne and the 1338 pickup on Sydney ACARS seem to match up quite well. The positioning flight on the 5th November approached YSSY at 1633.
