A C17 has just landed at YSSY - looks like a Canada government one as it has its flag on the tail. Taxiing over to the GA area as we speak :)

Could it possibly be here to ferry some of our old fighter jets back to canada for refurbishment? I know they've had that Antonov doing the the deliveries but maybe they've commissioned this as well?

The Hornets dont fit in a C-17, that's why we're leasing in Antonovs rather than taking them in our own C-17s.

Thanks for the pics Tony and for the information. I hope it doesn't leave tonight and it departs in the daylight so there are some decent photos.

Nice shots Tony, given the weather. Sad that such a glorious morning turned black.

Canadian C17 took off late this afternoon, just arrived at Sheps Mound as it departed, then about 90 mins later another C17 landed, I thought was same one but was Royal Air Force. Parked in General Aviation area. Impressive sight I have to say.

Apparently they need more runway than Richmond has to offer if they are going from here direct to Hickam AFB, Honolulu.

Andrew, the last i saw it was at Qantas East with only the tail visible from the entrance of the Dom-1 apron. I don't have a departure time available unfortunately.

RAF C-17 ZZ173 is sitting in the hammerhead near the pond at the top of RWY16R right now - looks like it's preparing to depart.

It was towed out from the area near hangar 96.

Updated 10:09 - rolling under its own steam now, taxiing across RWY 16R to Alpha.

I'm in sydney at the moment on the 33rd floor of a building in the CBD.

Saw the C17 take of sometime between 10:00 - 10:30. After takeoff it looked like it was heading west. Lost sight of it as it went behind the building.

The C17 is now sitting over in the GA area - not much action around it so hopefully that means it is not leaving tonight.

No worries. I hope it will still be there - if it isn't, I can't see if it is at the Jetbase.
