Based on the arrival and departure times below, 9V-SKE was sitting on the ground in YSSY for around 10 hours, not great from a utilisation point of view. Emirates were in the same position a few years back until they decided to fit in the Sydney-Auckland and Sydney-Christchurch sectors in the middle of the day, not so practical for Singapore because of their existing direct flights from Singapore to both these cities.
It will be interesting to see how the rotations work out for Qantas as they move towards an A380 fleet with 5 aircraft. Qantas will have the advantage of running in both directions, London and Los Angeles, so potentially could have good utilisation times.
