I have relatives on this flight tomorrow and want to be at YSSY to photograph the arrival. I'd like to know in advance which runway they will be assigned what frequency should I have my scanner tuned to?

Woudn't the runway depend on the wind conditions at the time? A bit hard to tell in advance.

Hi Nick,

34's will be in use all day practically according to the Terminal Area Forecast. For 355pm arrival best bet if you want good photos is probably beach/Observation deck and can't say what runway yet really dependent on conditions of arriving a/cft at the time. 120.500 for Runway 34L, 124.700 For 34R. Either way tune to ground (121.700,126.500) when you see the 767 land and itll taxi past.

Ill be out there at deck/beach this arvo, ill keep an eye out for you:)

I use the site http://www.rwy34.com/atis/ to find out runway usage before I leave to go spotting... Not sure if it will help you.

At the moment, 34L and R are in use.

If you don't have a scanner, you can call 9556 6566 for ATIS.

I got it sorted, tuned into Sydney Director on 126.1 and picked them up inbound and then 124.7 for rwy 34R.

There were quite a few go arounds this afternoon due to the crosswinds and unstable final approaches.

Indeed there were Nick.

I was at beach and one Qantas 737- think it might have been QF727 made 3 approaches, going around twice due windshear. But I haven't seen it this bad since i started spotting few years ago- the 737 went around both times at what seemed like 20 feet off the threshold. one Qantas 767 went around too. Anyways was fun to watch, film and photograph on a really nice but hot today!

Matt_L (Or anyone else for that matter) you don't happen to have a photo/video of that 767 G/A do you?

Lets just say there is a close personal connection to that flight and it would be nice to see it from the exterior!
