Ex-Rex Saab VH-KDI is now sporting full SOL colours and an Argentinean flag. It arrived this morning as Rex9700 and it's due to depart today between 1230 and 1300 for Tahiti.

Nice gig for the Rex pilots tasked for the ferry flight!

The crew are Pelair I think. They sounded pretty happy with it - though it's a damn long way in a Saab...

KDI departed off Rwy 34R for the 13 hour journey to Tahiti a short time ago.
The next leg is 9 hours to Easter Island, then another 8 or 9 to Argentina.

One of the pilots doing the ferry said he has done close to 65 ferry flights in Saabs in the past 5 years for Rex.

Used most of 34R during the departure roll.

Final destination Rosario, Argentina.

I was surprised they didn't request 34L, as I assumed they'd be running at close to or at MTOW.

Here it is taxiing to 34R...

Didn't take them long to start up and taxi, one minute the engine was turning over the next they were off, obviously didn't want to waste a drop of fuel.

WOW. very long first leg!

Love the paint job though, have never seen it before, in fact never heard of the airline before, but easily the the best livery I have seen on a SAAB.

Cheers

A beautiful looking aircraft indeed! The aircraft was painted in Albury. I love the SOL colours on the Saabs. VH-EKD is going to be the next and final one for SOL. The rest will go to Pel-Air.

Great photo Nick. Pilots would want to stretch their legs a bit during that first leg.

All 2 of them...

The rear of the aircraft is filled with one big fuel bladder, so I don't think there's too much room for doing anything really...except maybe using the bladder as a big in-flight bean bag!!!!!

Definitely a "No Smoking" flight.

SOL currently operates 3 Saab 340A's in Argentina. LV-BEW, LV-BEX and LV-BMD. With 2 more former Kendell/REX units (KDI and EKD) to be added in 2009.
