I haven't searched the board for an answer, however don't recall seeing it mentioned.

Just this minute (about 4:20pm) I saw an Omni Air International DC-10 touch down rather smoothly on 16R out of my office window.

Any word of what she's doing here? Charter work?

Looks like it pulled into either Pier B or Pier C. Unsure which.

Unfortunately can't get a rego.

ADF charter perhaps?

Strategic Aviation defence charter, as Michael said, replacing the A333 while it's at Lufthansa Technik in Manila. 'ASY' short for 'Aussie'.

This is my first attempt to upload pics, so fingers crossed. As always the light wasn't favourable for photography. It's great to see a DC-10 back in Sydney. Does anyone know the ownership details of this aircraft (i.e. airlines that it has flown for)? Also what are the current stats for DC-10s still flying for commercial airlines? Thanks

I have a few pics of landing, will post them later tonight.

N108AX / 108 (cn 47927/190) Nice way to start off the new year with the arrival of the scarce DC-10. This aircraft started out its life with Lufthansa as D-ADHO in 1975 before beeing sold to Sabena in 1994. It later joined Continental Airlines as N49082 in 1996 before joining Omni Air International in 2003

Rego info

rego N108AX
type DC10 - 30ER
con 47927 / line 190

Omni is taxiing for departure off Rwy 34L as I type. It looks like there's a reasonable crowd at the Twr Beach area from what I can see on the screen in my office, so I'd expect to see some sub-standard shots appear here later this evening.

It's interesting to see the Fed Ex MD11 so close to the departure point still with a clean wing.

Does anyone know if Omni will be back or if it was a one-off charter? I wonder how many defence force charters would be normally used in the period that TMT is away for. Maybe we could see something different again..

Here for three weeks I'm told - should be out of YSSY 5-6 times during that period.

Hi all!
Coming down from the bush to the Big Smoke this weekend for a couple of days of ships and planes.
Wondering if this DC10 is likely to coincide in Sydney with my visit.
I am guessing it is difficult to ascertain early preflight knowledge on its movements?
Any heads up appreciated!
Cheers John

The DC-10 is no longer used to service the Strategic Aviation routes as the regular A330 CS-TMT has returned from maintenance.

Cheers

You'll have to take 2 x MD-11's instead (FedEx and UPS). Both afternoon arrival and departures and best spotted from the Observation Deck.

Thanks Nigel, and Nick!
Can't seem to get days off to match anything of interest the last few months.
But such is life, I'm sure I'm due to snap a bagful shortly! Lol
Cheers John
