For those of you who keep meaning to go to Warnervale Aerodrome (just up the F3 freeway past Wyong) to photograph the DC-3 (P2-001/VH-DNF) which has sat there for around 10 years, IT IS ABOUT TO DEPART for an unknown location (thought to be Queensland), sometime in the next week or so.
P2-001, which was to become VH-DNF, diverted to Warnervale with engine problems on its delivery flight from Papua New Guinea.
So if you want a photograph if it, do it quick, before it's gone forever.

NO WAY
You mean it is actually going to fly, that's fantastic! The poor bird has been derelict at Warnervale for far too long now.

She was sold the other day and will be heading up to a QLD museam which they intend to paint her up into USAAF colours and be in a paratroop config. I was up there today and she isnt in the best shape at all.

This is what happened to "DNF"
It was on a ferry flight with a permit from PNG then the transponder failed, so the aircraft couldn't get into bankstown. Instead of fixing the transponder and getting another permit, the left engine was taken off and put onto SBL which had failed down in southern NSW, and then the u/s engine put back onto DNF. She has just sat there ever since and will never fly again (unless the person who bought it will spend around $600,000 plus to get her airworthy again) However roumor has it that they want to fly the aircraft out of warnervale.....

VH-DNF is now with new owner Ralph Chrystall at Molong, joining 4 other DC-3's there. I filmed/photographed the transportation of DNF which is available on DVD for $15. Photos are on my website http://www.kiwibeavers.com/Australia.html

Ralph Chrystall has taken possession of BPN and DNF to restore them for a static display. The other 3, DNA, MIN and PWN are under contract to a Belgian interest who plans to get 2 of them flying. SBL is still down at Melbourne awaiting finance for a 100 hour check so it can be flown back to Sydney.
