Was driving around the GA parking at Sydney and saw an old twin engine jet with United States Navy on it. Some kind of ex airliner or something like that. Can someone tell me what it is and what its doing here.
It looks like it is in storage with all the windows blocked out but could be wrong

But most of the members of this board weren't even glints in their fathers' eyes when the last DC-9 service flew Ray!

I know that but search is their best friend at times and they do not do that.

What would the search function have done apart from give the guy some history on a type he couldn't identify? I found very little information on 0048 myself, it's not even in the Jetphotos database from what I can see or airframes.org.

Nick if you try a search on registration web site you would have found it,jetphotos is not the answer. Try rzjets or planespotters.com.

Andrew, a slight correction if I may,
160048 c/n 47681 is a C-9B Skytrain II of the USN, the C-9A Nightingale was operated by the USAF and have been replaced by C-40 (a fate not far off for the C-9B fleet of the USN)

Rather noisy on take off to. The T/R's are deployed to minimise the amount of wear on the engine (free wheeling) while sitting on the ground for a long duration.

It has been turned around to face north on Bay 99A, so I'd expect a departure sometime soon.

Was wondering where the KC-10 was going as I was monitoring this a/c on ADS-B and it was maintaining FL210 then disappeared.
A/c is 79-1710.
