Hey guys,

I know this has been brought up multiple times to say the least, but the question i'm asking is a little different to the others.

Qantas Club Lounge and Virgin Blue's Lounge at Sydney Airport - would they/do they offer work experience/placement in relation to Food & Beverage?

The Food & Beverage placement could be done anywhere, I know, but I just wanted to spend some time at the airport, and that would be the perfect excuse. :p

I already pre-arranged some of my placements at a hotel but at the last minute they changed my departments around, and now I need to re-arrange it all because going there is pointless..

Give them a call. The worst they can say is no.

The QF Intl J lounge at YSSY is actually run by Sofitel (the hotel brand) - they maybe worth a try.

Air NZ for their intl lounge maybe worth a try too.

Good luck!

 :)

That's fantastic news.

Because the course I am doing is Hotel Management.. :D

Thankfully not run by the Swissotel, they're the ones I cancelled with.

I'll call the lounge tomorrow - I'm assuming that maybe because Sofitel is Accor and Accor has fantastic training/development programs, that it might be possible.

Thanks for your input guys. ;)

Cheers,

- Clarke.

I did work experience 2 years ago in the Qantas Club(T3) but I was only able to do that because my uncle was managing it at the time. Like Nigel said, you could ring and ask, couldnt hurt. They let me make announcements over the PA, I got to move the aero bridge away from a QF A332(VH-EBB) and it gave me a very good idea that I will work at the airport for Qantas when im older.

Clarke et al,

Sofitel is not Accor just like Accor is not Sofitel. Sofitel is a brand owned and operated by Accor.

Qantas First Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne are operated by Sofitel, however all the hiring is done by Qantas but advertised by Accor.

I would suggest you get onto it sooner rather than later, as you will need to go through all the necessary security checks and what have you.

I believe there are currently positions available at both SYD and MEL QF First Lounges, however there's no F&B positions on offer at SYD.

Sounds fantastic, Tim. :)

What I meant was Sofitel was a part of Accor, along with all the Ibis, Novotel, Pullman, etc. hotels.

Thanks for that info Grant - i'll call them asap and see what they can do.

And out of curiosity, are staff hired under the Qantas or Sofitel name?

As I understand it you'd be hired as a Sofitel employee and contracted to Qantas...

Thanks, I was unsure of that part
