Caller to Melbourne radio has just said Tiger Airlines may be in trouble.

Terminal is closed and in darkness and all planes closed on apron.

Don't now how accurate but could be a sign that they have hit the wall.

Something is definitely amiss.

Tiger appear to only have 5 departures from MEL today according to the airport website and the first of those is cancelled!!

4/02 TT 526 ADELAIDE 19:15 19:11 3 DEPARTED
5/02 TT 512 ALICE SPRINGS 10:15 10:15
5/02 TT 524 ADELAIDE 15:45 15:45 3
5/02 TT 526 ADELAIDE 19:15 19:15 3

Direct from Melbourne Airport website...2 flights today (4/2) - one cancelled, other departed??? Looks like there is something definately wrong. Also this doesn't show any of their other daily flights to Canberra, Hobart, Perth...

Firstly, the MELAIR.COM website is nuts, an ADL flight tonight has apparently left...Airport site is also very inaccurate in terms of displaying the actual flights. There is about 5-10 other departures today to PER,HBA,LST,OOL etc..

There was no departures last night from 1915, so they closed the terminal, I saw this myself as I arrived from OOL on Tiger at 10.30pm last night.

From Experience, Tiger has poor demand on Tues/Wed(especially Adelaide), so not as much action down at T4. No midnight horrors also which might explain the "all planes closed on apron". They were also all there yesterday morning until the morning ROK departure.

FYI, if you just enter "TT" into the flight info search field on melair.com some other Tiger flights appear over the coming days - but not all of them.

It seems you can still book flights for today and tomorrow on Tiger's website though.

If you peruse through the Flight schedule on the Tiger website, February appears to have a planned reduced schedule. Very little flying on Tuesdays and a lack of the red eye flights from Perth. Maybe planned maintenance or crewing issues associated with training new crews for the ramp up in March for the Adelaide Hub?

Everything looked normal last night.(drove past your flight as you got on block's Lucas).

From the heraldsun.com.au

BUDGET carrier Tiger Airways has been forced to cut scheduled flights out of Melbourne because of a lack of passengers.
In further evidence of growing economic concerns (http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,21985,25006258-661,00.html) among Australians, there will be no Tiger Airways (http://www.tigerairways.com/au/en/) flights leaving or landing at Melbourne between 9am and 12.45pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for the whole of this month.
Tiger spokesman Matt Hobbs said the airline had chosen to adjust its schedule because of a drop in demand.
He insisted flights had not been cancelled and that the airline was not struggling.
"Nothing could be further from the truth," he said.
"We have done some rescheduling for February so we have a few planes sitting on the ground in the mornings.
"February is traditionally a particularly slow month because people are going back to school, back to work and businesses are getting their house in order before travelling."
Mr Hobbs said the downturn followed bumper months in December and January.
He said the flight schedule would increase again in March and April.
He said the airline was continuing its expansion in Australia with, new planes, another five routes to be announced soon and an expansion in Adelaide.

I wonder if their 'lack of passengers' has anything to do with their disgraceful customer service??

Well from what I seen today with around 30 pax outside the their terminal looking fairly angry I would say that would be part of the reason.

Lets also look at their business model also in comparison with QF/JQ and DJ yes they are greta if you can nail a $20-$40 fare after that and they are no cheaper than the other airlines, they have a lower checked bag weight of 15kgs before you have to pay, you have to pay to select a seat, you have to pay tot ake a pram or golf clubs or surfboard, look at it that way and their seat cost come upto that of JQ or DJ where you have 20Kg-23kg baggage allowance golf clubs ect are inc as part of that allowance, so their 'market' out side of the $20-$40 cheap fares is limited.

Going the long way round, Monty?

Atleast you've still got a flight, unlike someone else trying to get to the spotting weekend on Macair! ;)

I am booked on Tiger from MEL-PER for a quick 3-night trip over Easter for $228 return, including pre-assigned seats both ways, so I will happily forego any customer service as long as they get me there and back safely. Considering they are operating nearly-new A-320s, I think this is a great way to travel.

Their brand new A320 has sat in Melbourne since it was delivered at the John holland hangars.
