Kurt A
6th February 2009, 12:59 PM
Dear fellow "Spotters",

The fantastic team over at V Australia recently made contact with the Sydney Airport Message Board and were keen to arrange an event that coincided with our Group Membership here at the Forum.

Since it's a given that many of you will be out and about on Monday 9th Feb morning to watch their first Boeing 777-300LR arrive into Sydney; V Australia has recognised the 'Spotters' enthusiasm, and is throwing us a party!

So come along, meet the V Australia Crew, have some donuts courtesy of Krispy Kreme's and V Australia, and welcome Australia's newest International Airline.

Please visit the special page on the V Australia website for all the details.
http://www.vaustralia.com.au/777/

Be at Shep's Hill from 8.30am to witness the arrival on Monday 9th February.

Kind Regards,
Stephen Brown and Kurt Ams

For anyone at the Spotting weekend, were the two cranes by the Mound blocking any views? I can see two cranes near the bus terminal so it looks like they might block the view for a 16R landing (which is currently in place).

They have just lowered the cranes after loading one of the aerobridges onto a truck. But all the stuff there certainly blocks some view. VA is kind enough to hire a double decker bus for all the spotters at the mound.

Hold @ Shark.

Landing time 1014. Fly-by doesn't look like being authorised ATC have just advised.

I caught a glimpse after it touchdown and made its way back to the gate. It looked very nice Marty - any 777 looks great in my view! :)

The funny thing is with the grey weather out there, it almost "blended in" with the cloud, the colours were so similar.

I would probably suggest watching channel 7 news tonight..Their chopper flew over the mound and where we were on top of the bus. I was very impressed with what Vaustralia did, also great to have a quick chat with some of the guys who will be working the planes. One of the pilots who will be flying March 1 flight was standing right behind me.

Michael - you must have been standing right next to me. I was the guy in the maroon polo top. I'll add some photos a lil bit later.

I expect the bushfire will take up all the news

Annette Logan

Yeah I have been looking out for any news but the fires have taken it all and so they should.

Channel 10 news had a quick news bit about it but showed no pictures of everyone on the mound just the plane landing and when it was on the ground.

I have kept an eye out for any news but it is quite sad about the fires and if someone lits them, I shake my head at them I really do.

But I like what I see cobber, great pics. Interior is a bit ho-humish but it will serve its intended purpose very well.

Good luck to V Aust. I hope the livery looks better in sunshine because I'm not liking what I see so far (the livery, not the photos of it!) at all.

was on the M5 at around 19:50 westbound. The Etihad A346 was at the remote stand.

Looking through the photos they were quite nice. Exterior-wise colourscheme looks ok. The seat fabric however is appallingly ugly (once you look closer) - the fabric pattern of the economy seat is really bad - cant believe they went for those colours / patterns - I wouldve expected that from a mainland Chinese carrier...

Unfortunately, my desk faces the Western Distributor, so no view of the plane at all :(

The 14-hour flight from Los Angeles had a shaky start, as lightning struck the plane just minutes after take-off. No damage was apparent but an inspection was set to be carried out by ground crew.

Robert, the last of Kurts' photos shows the name 'Didgeree Blue'.

This is what prompted my question - because it was missing in the earlier photos. :) There was also quite a big deal made about the name.

http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,25031828-3122,00.html

Members of the Yolgnu people, the traditional keepers of the didgeridoo, attended the ceremony yesterday to welcome the plane, dubbed Didgeree Blue. They gave permission for use of the name.
