One of my spotting weekend shots made the Jetphotos.net Top Shots. I got the email while I was away for the weekend in Dubbo.
It's a big deal for me, other people may not care but hey.

Yeah mate it was just a matter of time until that shot made top. In the past week I have had 5 shots that have been labelled as top photos and I to think it is a big deal. My Emirates 777 cabin shot from Auckland was actually top of 48 hours for the whole 2 days so I was really stoked.
Keep up the good work.

Mike I have forgotten to put up the original for you!!!! Its 21.3MB so I'll reduce it and get it done tonight.
Mr Forwood was standing next to me when I took the shot and his only comment was "geez that sounded slow!" :D:D

So thats how you get a handheld night shot onto JetPhotos, turn the noise reduction right up and sharpen the hell out of it...

Exactly :D
Although it was only 400ISO, not 1600!
Noise Ninja did a great job of leaving me with enough image to sharpen.

Lovely shot Nick - great to see it in the top shots. It is certainly a unique photo - it is amazing how it looks at night with all the light on in the cabin. Well done!

Nick,
The over use of Noise reduction tools is generally frowned upon at JP, basically because it starts to introduce artifacts and fringing. I think in your case what has saved you is that that the shot is a night shot and the artifacts are not as easily seen. At the time of screening there was some discussion around the noise reduction in the picture amongst the screeners.
Monty is sort of correct. Although maybe it would have gone for overprocessing more than manipulation, in that the use of noise reduction and the sharpening has had an affect on the picture. Manipulation is more for when somebody deliberately alters a picture in some way to get it in the database (and believe me you should see some of the beautys we get).
But that's all irrelevant. It's been accepted, it's been viewed a few thousand times and it stays in the Database. The plan now is to learn and keep improving your photography skills and get even better pics in the database. The forums at JP are there to help photographers,so if you have any questions post them there, there are always JP crew and experienced people around to help.

don't want to plug but one of mine made top 2 for a day, with no particular reason (totally unexpected) e.g. since it wasn't really anything special.. was dissappointed this didn't happen to my 743 photo

The Wife is letting me get a decent camera before the F1 this year, don't know whether to go Nikon or Canon (suggestions welcome), so I'll finally be cured of camera envy at the mound. I'll then be right to get some pointers.
Loads of my amature pics at www.darrenbutterworth.com

Thanks Guys - I'll let you know my progress.
I'm a Ford man and have supported McLaren since 1995, but I'm still not sure which camera is the Ford and which is the Holden!
