I see at this years spotting week end you had set up a demo on the SBS-1 ADSB system, what if any was the opinion of the visiting Fedpol and other visitors to using this equipment around the airport ?

Fed Pol said it was fine as long as the technology didn't get into the hands of those dastardly Cairns boys! :D;)

I don't see why it would be a problem, given that Airservices Australia are publicly giving out the same data via their website.

Nick, you want to ring fedpol and tell em its too late, the SBS-1 is available here in Queensland even if it is still 1975 up here

Mick, i do agree with what your saying, but, there cant be one person on here who at some stage or other have had some member of the public say that listening into ATC on a scanner "cant be legal ".

During the spotting week end i even had someone on the international viewing deck expressing surprise that we could still take pictures of aircraft "in this day and age" .

I just dont fancy some wally spotting the SBS-1 and ringing 1300dobinbinladen and me spending the next 1/2 hour explaining to fedpol :D

Things have come a long way since I was there last then:D

Honestly though mate I reckon you wouldn't have any issues up there with this sort of technology. If Michael J. Fox could sneak a nuclear (read nukular) powered Dolorian back to 1965 or whatever then a SBS-1 in 1975 won't be an issue.

I sure you right, waiting for Kevin to give me the $900 he has for me, then its off to JB-HiFi for a netbook computer with a 10 inch screen , just the thing for a few hours spotting, , 5 hours on one battery, so no more leads into power points.

Now im just going to fire up the Datsun-120Y and its off to the future....I HOPE.......:p

Steve,

I share your sentiments, there is always some dingaling who freaks out over sighting an antenna, radio or camera.

Often have people staring at me wondering what I have in my hands...I tell them it's called a camera....a thing that takes pictures..

It's no longer a novelty........Pictures have been taken at airports for the last 106 years.
