QANTAS MARKS TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF oneworld ALLIANCE
SYDNEY, 27 February 2009: Qantas announced today that two of its aircraft would carry special
oneworld livery to mark the alliance’s tenth anniversary this year.
The Chief Executive of Qantas, Mr Alan Joyce, said that as a founding member of oneworld, Qantas
was strongly committed to the alliance and the benefits it delivered to customers.
“Qantas and its customers have benefited greatly from our oneworld membership over the last 10
years,” Mr Joyce said.
“We are able to offer a genuinely global range of products and services that would not be possible
without the alliance, including round the world fares and reciprocal lounge and loyalty program
access.
“To mark this important milestone in the alliance’s history, a Qantas Boeing 747-400 and an Airbus
A330-200 will be flying with oneworld livery. The Boeing 747-400 will operate its first service with the
new livery on Saturday 28 February as QF73 from Sydney to San Francisco. The A330-200 will be in
operation by the end of March.”
In addition to the new aircraft livery, Qantas will participate in a number of oneworld anniversary
activities throughout the year, including airport and Frequent Flyer promotions.
The airline is also participating in oneworld’s 10 per cent off for 10 weeks sale which offers a 10 per
cent discount on all oneworld Explorer round-the-world bookings made until 12 April 2009.
Customers can save up to $470 on the six continent oneworld Explorer round-the-world fare in
Economy Class, $1,379 in Business Class and $1,779 in First Class.

So, do we know the rego's of these yet???

Ok, Matt beat me by miliseconds.... Sorry!

Very interesting, can't wait to see them. Too bad I can't get down to the airport tomorrow to see QF73 but I'm sure someone will be able to?

My guess is that the 744 must already be in the oneworld colours or soon to be revealed? Anyone know which aircraft (I read it might be OEB?) and where it had the titles applied?

hahaha, ok, Matt beat me to it as well... thanks for the response!

Does anyone know why OEB was picked? I know its the only B744 in the new livery, but surely there'd have been other B744's up for a repaint where they could have applied the full new livery and oneworld titles as well? Or not.

Do you have a pic?

Nah. I just got the information from Tim Bowrey after he finished work in T3. He had a picture which is now in the JP photo Queue but it was pretty much a front on view showing just a little bit of the side, because the hangar was apparently half shut.

Nah. I just got the information from Tim Bowrey after he finished work in T3. .

Dam right!:)

The doors are still shut and you cannot get a sideon view at all. Its sitting in Hanger 271 with doors 3/4 closed. A rego isnt readable but you can see Phillip Island on the nose so its OEB. I asked a staff member today and its getting rolled about tomorrow at about 2pm although Im not sure how much she knew. A332 is EBL?

As far as the scheme goes, it has OneWorld in big type the same as BA and Qantas writen below the windows.

I just saw the 744 rotate right in front me at Qantas domestic while waiting for my flight. The One World logo and titles look very good actually, much better than on the photos. Don't look as huge and misplaced at all as they do on the pics of BA744. Instead of the camera I was holding a whopper though...

here's mine. Undoubtedly it received the most attention today..

Ray - agree and it looks a bit 'crowded' - though overall I think it still looks better than BA's or Cathay's. The AA version of the oneworld livery will most likely be worse!

Not a huge fan... I think the "QANTAS" under the oneworld was unnecessary... the rat gives it away. Maybe just leave "Spirit of Australia" there instead.... everyone knows who it is then.

Still... it could be far far worse!

Great shots as always gentlemen! I like it - I can see why others think it is overcrowded, but it is enough that it is noticeable but not too much. It will be interesting if it looks better or worse on the 332.

Blake - I don't think you realise how unique that photo is. That has every aircraft type in the QF Mainline fleet. With the departure of the 743, there is a 744, A380, A332, A330, 767 and 737. The only derivitive missing is the difference 737 models. Great shot! :) I think I just found my new desktop background! :D

Some great shots folks.

Seeing blue titles on a QF aircraft will take a bit of getting used too.

-OEB has looked good every since it's repaint it's just a pity they couldn't of taken the opportunity to paint another B744 into the new livery and apply the OW scheme to that one.

It is also a shame QF couldn't of rectified the mismatched QF logo on the no.4engine which has been like that for quite a few months now.

Dan Collins
28th February 2009, 09:07 PM
Agree with Tom, I'd have expected them to have chosen another B744 for the oneworld livery, but ah well.

It doesn't look that bad in my opinion. I like the oneworld liveries more than the Star Alliance ones and it's something new and different out there. Excellent photos from the group again. Thanks!

Where is the A380?

Tail section in the middle above the ONE in One world.

Tom PER
28th February 2009, 11:07 PM
I can't see it either.

The tail sticking out of the hangar in question looks more like a B763 or an A330. The R5 door on QF A380 is entirely red...the R5 on the plane sticking out of the hangar is red and white.

Damian N
28th February 2009, 11:35 PM
I suspect the tail in the middle is probably an A330 rather than an A380. It seems to have grey paint where the horizontal stab meets the fuselage like the other A330s in the pic. Also the fact that it is in the "new" livery would probably place greater odds on it being an A330 than a 767.

Tail section in the middle above the ONE in One world.

The tail is no where near big enough, when you look at other photos that have an A380 around there.

The other thing is the grey/silver piece as Damian said.

I think there is a building there than gives an impression of a top row of windows.

Agree with you there Mr Chamberlain.. Nothing visually stimulating in the OneWorld alliance offering..

D Chan
1st March 2009, 04:20 PM
the a380 can't fit in that hangar I believe, it only goes into Hangar 96 so it wouldn't been there, nevertheless it captured most of the fleet types!

Sarah C
1st March 2009, 04:32 PM
Yeah, you are all right - it is an A332. D Chan is right - I don't think the whalejet fits in that hangar anyway. Oh well, it looks close enough to the naked eye :p

Agreed. Are they (and other members including BA) serious about this or not? It's like "we are in an alliance but we don't really want to spend much money on promoting it through painting our planes"

Star's committment on their paint jobs leaves them for dead :o

Dan Collins
4th March 2009, 11:55 AM
It's interesting the reaction to the oneworld livery. I think they've done a better job than Star Alliance in that the airline identity remains and there's no confusion.

I've seen many Star Alliance planes. The livery is plain and boring really (and that's in my opinion), and whilst spotting a lot of people ask 'where's Star Alliance from?'. Singapore Airlines didn't want the Star Alliance image taking over theirs so the SQ birds look different to the other members planes.

So oneworld have come up with a good compromise in that the airline identity is retained (as it should) and yet we still know they're part of, and promoting oneworld, while each airline can retain their identity as well. (Though I have seen shots of the Royal Jordanian logojet and yes, I know it's white instead of the standard colours).

Had oneworld copied Star Alliance's approach, I can imagine the reaction then!

Any word on SkyTeam? I think there's also going to be some logojets for them soon?

Is it just me or does the "Qantas" titles on the standard "new" Qantas livery on the Airbus A330's look a tad too large? I realise they are larger on the new livery than the old accross the fleet, but on the A330 I think they are a smidgen too large and extend too high such that where they are positioned the curvature of the airframe starts to distort them. Compared to most of the rest of the fleet, the "Qantas" wording is on (relatively!) more flatter section of the fuse? Anyone agree??

BA's CIVC with the red nose is in today. EBL left at about midday.

Also, there are 4 new United 747's in. 3 at the gate opperating normal flights including Air Pacific Charter and one at GA for yesterdays cancelled UA840 service. Will depart today at 4:30pm as UA9795 to LAX. Delayed QF18 from Buenos Aires is due today at 5pm which was supposed to come in yesterday.

Had to bring this one up again. Was on the mound yesterday and saw all the norm going ons, and didn't realise saw the QF One world got tugged from the jetbase over to the terminal(Ended up doing QF74 SFO). Didn't know until it was pulled across, that the BA 744 in was G-CIVC. Thought u - beauty! Ended up that CIVC was tugged all the way up past the terminal to where the QF one was, and then tugged back to its gate. Good thing was QF one was coming out, so i happened to get a few photos of both together. Also happened to get one of the QF One world with A380(VH-OQC i think). Sorry bout the quality of the 2nd photo. Using new Canon 450D so trying to get used to it.
