9V-SRA B772 currently on approach to SYD operating SQ245 which according to acars message is a Singapore-Brisbane flight.

Not sure of reason for 'diversion'.

I dont think he had left his cruise level when he turned right for YSSY.
Must have been some reason for him not to hold, as others had and were in process of doing the approach in, and they got in.

May be his hold time was greater than his fuel would allow.

Will he get back out of YSSY berore curfew?

He just made it! On its way north now.

Wayne, there are a couple of reasons.

1 - He may not have had the required legal hold fuel, and so diverted early.

2 - He may have had Sydney as an alternate, but knowing that if they went to Brisbane and couldn't get in, they would divert to Sydney and then not have sufficient time to depart before curfew.

Sometimes its better just to wear the 2 hour extra flight, and gas up in Sydney, than to take the risk of not getting into Brissie and end up either overnighting in Sydney, or worst case, Rockhampton!
