Parked on Bay 98B as I type.

I'm not aware of its movements after this.

Was gonna go have a look but 98B wont be friendly. Hopefully it ends up at the GA.

98B is on the DOM-6 apron just to the south of GA.

It sure is, I have no idea why I was thinking it was one of the stand off bays at the Int Terminal.

It is sitting over in the GA area now - perfect photo opportunity unless it leaves overnight.

Nice shot Tim, any idea of departure time?

I managed to get some nice shots from the fence in front of Krispy Kreme. Sunlight was perfect, got there just as they were shutting down.

It is still parked over at general aviation, apparently it is here bringing a diplomat in to discuss resuming uranium shipments

Any movement yet?

Yep - it is facing the west in the GA area so it is about to taxi to runway 34L in the next couple of minutes.

It jus took off from 34L , rotating in line with the tower so it is a good photo spot if you were at the beach.

Nice to see over St Clair at 5.14pm on the Katoomba track. I was keeping an eye out with the radio on and most of the previous departures (TG996, BA16 and SQ222) had tracked via Richmond so very lucky that it came this way.

Nice clear reg under the wing.

Where did it depart too? I had Clearance Delivery on the whole time but didnt hear it. Callsign was "Sierra Delta Mike 5003" even though it was hard to understand them.

They actually had pretty good english for a Russian crew. Then again, I do work with a Russian, so listening to that accent is something I'm quite used to!

Likewise.

Question for everyone. Matt and I were having an argument about its size. What is it better compared to? An A320 or 772 in size comparrison? McDonald kept going nuts saying it is tiny and the same size as an A320 Air Calin that was rolling through.

More like an A300 / A310

Great photos Matt. Quite a surprise performance, thought the IL96 would rotate long and slow, it actually got up before the beach!!

That's actually a very good comparison. It's a badly kept secret that they have got a lot of "inspiration" from the A300/A310 in this design. It's looks almost like a 4-engined A310.
But it's still got a very unmistakably Russian appearance.

B762 fuselage
A340 wings and engines
Tail...?

The IL-96 is actually closest in size to an A332/A333 or an A343 (in terms of length, at just under 60m). The stretched version (IL-96M - 64.7m) is much closer to a 772. That is if the info on Aerosite (http://www.aerosite.net) is accurate...

It looks to have a large Cargo capacity unless it's an illusion due to the shape and position of the nose/cockpit area.

An Ilyushin illusion no doubt..

It could be a mobile blood bank, then it would be a Transfusion Ilyushin illusion.

It could be mixed up, then it would be a confusion Ilyushin illusion.

It could interject, then it could be an intrusion Ilyushin illusion

And if it thought it was a Boeing or Airbus, it would then be dilusion(al) Ilyushin illusion...??? No??
