A work mate has just come back from Rio and was due to fly QF 18 back from Buenos Aires last Saturday and were informed that due to Buenos Aires Controllers the inbound fight was not cleared to land and went to Montevideo instead. When the aircraft did get to Buenos Aires they were informed that a further delay to the depature till QF got a CASA ruling on something.

Any one know why the aircraft went to Montevideoand is this the normal alt for this flight?

With QF18 normally due at 18:40 a delay of only a few hours could cause a curfew issue, perhaps they were waiting for permission to bust the curfew.

Apparently there were storms in the Ezeiza area so that's why it was diverted to Montevideo.

yes, weather related so it was diverted to MVD.

This may have been said A/C, taken from Peter A Acars list.

My work mate said weather was fine at the time and that he was told a crew used the high speed ferry to get to Montevideo to bring aircract to Buenos Aires, and it was 12 hrs or so before it left, due to crew hours.
He also said that the Casa thing was to do with a a/c fault.
