The article says "one of the carrier's twice daily rotations to Bangkok". One of which of course carries on to SYD (and CHC) as EK418. I wonder if it will be 418? I guess it depends on the loads of the existing 77W service but we could end up with two EK 380s here each day...

Just looked at Emirates route map. They go to bangkok, then on to 2 different cities - Hong Kong and SYD/CHC. I would probably say that they may put it on the BKK/HKG route. I would highly doubt that CHC would be able to deal with A380's.

^ That's a lot of plane and range for such a short journey (BKK/HKG) but I tend to agree with you as on the flip side, there would have to be a lot of people to fill that plane to SYD (and CHC).

It goes to show, EK with only a handful of 380s are already having trouble deploying them with another 50 odd more to come... good grief!

Then Again SYD-CHC route has alot of cargo money for Emirates, so who knows.

The Emirates A380 that comes to Sydney dos not carry on to Christchurch. It operates as EK412 Dubai-Sydney-Auckland ad then returns as EK413 Auckland-Sydney-Dubai.

Yes, but if the second EK service was to be upgraded to an A380 as well, then it would conceivably be continuing on to CHC, making both of the NZ services A380 operations.

Good news for NZ if it happens, but when was the last delivery of an A380 to Emirates or anyone? Seems to be a decent gap.

Therefore no HKG or SYD (for EK418) or CHC.

At least we have EK412 and by no means is having the 77W a disappointment either.
