View Full Version : Uzbekistan Soccer team arrives next week

Australia & Uzbekistan are playing a World Cup Qualifier in Sydney next Wednesday (1st April).

According to the latest news the Uzbekistan team will probably arrive on Tuesday which doesn't give them much training time.

No details of a/c type or arr/dep times at this time.

From memory, didn't a club team from Uzbekistan play Adelaide United last year and they chartered a "Uzbekistan Airways" 757 to get to that game? I would think they would do the same for their national team as well, although I could be way off!

This is correct

Here's the thread from when Bundakayor played Adeleide Utd in the ACL semis:

Definitely hoping something like this will appear so I can go try out my new camera.

Uzbekistan currently are playing Qatar at home, and leading 2-0 in the 2nd half. My guess is that they may appear in Sydney on Monday. I doubt, with my football knowledge (I'm a freak), that they would come in the day before being Tuesday. Monday is definitely my tip. The match finished 4-0 to the Uzbeks, which i would see as a big result for them. Unfortunately, that is their 1st win, and have no chance of getting in the top 2 of the group which qualify for WC2010. Aus and Japan will fill that.

The Uzbekistan team arrives in Sydney late Sunday night (tonight: 29 March) according to an article (http://www.smh.com.au/news/sport/football/uzbekistan-vow-to-be-at-full-strength-for-australia/2009/03/26/1237657074119.html) I read last week in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Not helping their cause is a tight travel schedule. They leave Tashkent on a charter flight just four hours after the final whistle against Qatar, and arrive in Sydney late on Sunday night - giving them just two days to prepare.

I was there but it got too late so I came home before they landed and I have an early start tomorrow so I will have some night shots(5am) and day shots of them both if they are parked in good positions.

Its currently sitting over in the GA area (along with a DHL 727, Ozjet 732, and the kingfisher A319? in the background). livery looks nice!

It must have been at the T1 overnight as it wasn't there this morning and towed to GA afterwards as it wasn't there at 5am. Kingfisher is parked where DJ and JQ normally store aircraft overnight just west of GA. I'll have photos when I upload them.

Wayne Bishop

Hi Tim,
Well given the match will finish circa 9.30pm it would seem a tall order to beat the 23.00 curfew so one would hazard an educated guess "early" Thursday morning.
Cheers

Just a bump for the Socceroos - a QF 767 is departing for Doha, Qatar this evening and will bring the team back to Sydney, arriving at about 1pm.

Will Qantas paint one of their aircraft in a special socceroos livery like they did for the 2006 world cup?

Cheers for the photos Anthony.

Imagine working in that building on the other side of the river that looks right down the centreline of the runway. You would never get bored at work.
