Four snakes ground Qantas plane

April 16, 2009 - 9:14AM
Four baby snakes grounded a Qantas plane in Melbourne after they made a doomed bid for freedom during a flight from Alice Springs.

The four baby Stimson's pythons were found to be missing from their container on Tuesday when the flight arrived in Melbourne.

The 15cm snakes were among 12 pythons in a container in the Boeing 737-800's cargo hold, a Qantas spokeswoman said.

Two flights had to be cancelled while staff searched for the missing snakes, but they could not be found.

The plane was fumigated and returned to service the following day, the spokeswoman said.

Stimson's pythons, which can grow up to one metre long, are not venomous and live in western and central Australia.

Since they probably escaped, I think the more correct title is "Snakes were on a plane!" :p

So...if they've not been located how do they know they haven't left the premises. Maybe they just held their breath for the fumigation and are now stealthily making their way to Zwecky's next flight....

" VH-V.., This is the aircraft that the missing snakes are on "

On Adelaide radio, this story is getting airplay every 30 minutes and I really think this is not achieving anything.

I think one of these photos has been put on here before, but it is sooooo relevant to this thread and i couldn't help myself! I could so imagine the scene of Pic 1 occuring, then with your awesome QF Flight attendant(Pic 2) trying to make it down the aisle to comfort you in Pic 3.....
