I was out at the Sydney Aviation Model & Memorabilia Show this morning and took the opportunity to also photograph some of the aircraft around the airport. It was good to catch up with Bob Bell, Brenden, Merv, Sam and a few other familiar faces.

I was fortunate to have a close up look at this YAK-50, just finishing its annual inspection, and what a beautifully presented aircraft it is.

From the instrument panel :

Max RPM 100% 5 Mins

Vne 450Kph
Va 400Kph
Vlo 200Kph
Vle 200Kph
Vs 110Kph

The Air Speed Indicator goes to 450Kph.
The starter, brakes and undercarriage are all air operated, hydraulics are not so good in the Russian winter cold.

Some great shots there Grahame. Thanks for posting.

Question: I haven't seen the blue and red air ambulance before? is that a new one on lease or something?

Gerard, VH-NSP is a 1982 build Bell 412 (33091) operater by Lloyd Off-Shore Helicopters. It has a small CHC on the tail, just like VH-EPH which is the Canadian company from memory. There are images on Airliners.net of it at Essendon and the Heidelberg helipad, so maybe it is just visiting from Victoria.

I don't believe I have shot this one before, may be someone else will have the full details.

Grahame

interesting about the yak-50.

Just one question i can't make out in your pic of the cockpit, is the ASI in kph or knots.

Also can you tell me what donk is in it.

Tried looking it up, but to no avail.

Cheers

Adam

Adam, the ASI is in Kph and the engine is a VEDENEYEV (IVCHENKO) M14-P.

The Vedeneyev M-14P engine is a 9 cylinder 360 hp radial and is renowned as the world's most reliable radial engine. The design comes from 1933 and has been continuously developed since then through various horsepowers through to the present day 360 and 400 hp versions. It is currently used in at least 20 different types of aircraft and helicopters.

Re VH-NSP
The aircraft is in what could be called "CHC default colours" as it is sent around to fill up holes in their contracts. For the last few months, VH-NSP has been playing "Rescue 21" based at Orange.

I was told once that role is complete it will go to fill another spot, which maybe in another state, hence it is painted in a non-State specific colour, if you know what I mean.

Re: VH-NSP

Does that then mean VH-BZH (normally based in Orange) is under going maintenance.

Not sure about VH-BZH status. Someone else may know.

There was another Bell in the hangar which I should have got a photo of. It wasnt BZH either.
