AT LEAST six people have been killed when a twin-engine plane crashed into a home shortly after taking off from Guatemala City international airport, a civil aviation authority said.
The small plane took off heading south towards Belize, "but plummeted when it made a turn towards the left," said the head of the Civil Aviation office, Juan Jose Carlos.
"We still do not know the reason, if it was an engine failure or a pilot error because it was raining when the plane took off," he said.
The plane took off at 5:42am Sydney time and went down seconds later over a house located some 500 metres from the airport terminal.
The crash sparked a fire that destroyed part of the home.
The pilot and the plane's five passengers died in the crash, Mr Carlos said.
I wish they'd let us know what model aircraft it was in their report. Hopefully more details will follow soon.
