Hi Adam,
Was watching a SAR aircraft on AIS radar from work in Sydney...looks like it came up from Melb then was on station in the Wollongong area for over an hour or so then departed south towards Melb again...

If it was from Melbourne it could have been the Dornier SAR VH-PPQ (http://www.airliners.net/photo/Australian-Maritime-Safety/Dornier-328-110/1487421/L/&sid=eca45cd83fe3b7b9ceee6e9f371d5e37) perhaps? I have seen this aircraft come up before from there and do some work up North and then head back. Nemo 4 i think it usually uses.
Likewise it would be interesting if someone knew what it was and what it was up to.

Hey Patrick, i just had a look at my PP log for today as ive had it on since i got up (1130am;)) and i've got two of them on there,VH-PPF by user B1 in Perth so thats not it and VH-PPJ - in the Sydney/Woolongong area. So its more than likely that might have been VH-PPJ. And it was also around the right time that you posted too.
Hope that helps.
