People,
The Spanish King and Royal Family are visiting Australia from later this week.

Due in Canberra Wednesday and Sydney Thursday. This is their first visit to Australia since 1988.

Should imagine they will travel with the Spanish Air Force and if that is the case,it will be one of their A310's.

Also due 30/7 is the French President on a State Visit and will be travelling by French Air Force A340.

THE Spanish royal family will make its first visit to Australia in more than two decades.

The King of Spain, Juan Carlos, and his wife Queen Sofia will arrive in Australia on Wednesday for a three-day state visit.

They will travel with a delegation including a number of Spanish government ministers.

Their first stop is Canberra, where they will meet Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull and Governor-General Quentin Bryce.

On Thursday they will travel to Sydney, where the royals will open the Instituto Cervantes centre, a Spanish government cultural institution.

The centres have been established around the world since 1991 and the Sydney facility will be the first in Australia.

On Friday, the King will attend a major Australian-Spain Business Forum.

The royals are expected to head to New Zealand after Australia.

Now I'm only guessing here but most VIP visits in Canberra depart early morning so around 7-9am.

Cheers

Motorcade Leaving

After the Motorcade left, we saw a C-17 fly over very low, and after heading back to the mound heard the most amazing phrase from the tower - "Stallion 15, Cleared touch and go runway 34 left"

Great shots guys. Excellent quality as usual. Great catch with the C-17 Gareth.

Did you catch the landing ...... the crew kept the nose wheel up in the air for an extended time and let the speed bleed off until till it dropped. When I saw the nose lift after the main gear touched down I though he might go around or tail strike - it was quite abrupt.

Anyway - here was the view from Tower Beach (the best of the mediocre).

Hi Darren,
According to the AFP it will remain at GA until it leaves at about 5:30pm tomorrow. The schedules might change though.

If it is due around 5:30pm tomorrow evening, best options is photos early tomorrow morning I guess. Hopefully the weather will be decent.

Hey Lee, I think all areas of the airport were covered for this arrival haha. Not much of a touchdown but pretty cool anyway. Did you get any others of the touchdown dispite quality? Like me haha.

Pilot did the same thing when he landed in Canberra on yesterday. Took about half the runway before he dropped the nose on the runway.

Tim,

I got a series of about 15 photos before a QF 767 obscured the aircraft for a few seconds (damn those QF people :D) May take a short time to make them into a strip of small shots but if I get a chance I'll knock them over tonight and post them. I had to leave straight after this one and missed the C17...... was on a 7 step ladder at the beach and was well and truly looking above the fence - would have been a great shot for there ....maybe next time.

You'll have to let me know where you were to get your photos.......

According to the highly accurate Wikipedia, it is the standard high visibility "fin flash" for the Spanish Air Force.
