Evening All,
Was browsing another aviation orientated message board, when I came across this link: http://www.erebus.co.nz

Only launched yesterday, it's a website dedicated to the Air New Zealand DC-10 accident at Mount Erebus in Antarctica, in 1979. Some quite interesting read's on there, and definitely worth a look if you're interested.

Enjoy

Mick

Thanks for posting the link Mick.

Who could ever forget the events of November 28, 1979. A tragic and very much unnecessary waste of life.

I have read material regarding this accident previously and some of the accounts of those who worked at the scene post crash really make the heart sink.

There was a TV mini-series made many moons ago titled "Erebus: The Aftermath" which brought the accident back into the public eye in 1988.

Having flown to Antarctica on a Qantas sightseeing flight I know first hand what the mood would have been for all 257 passengers onboard TE901 in the flying hours leading up to the crash and I hope that feeling of excitement, anticipation and amazement fills their souls to this very day.

To use the overused cliche "a picture tells a thousand words" in relation to the following would be an understatement, instead I'll leave it to tell it's own powerful story :(

I remember the chill of hearing the radio report that the aircraft had gone beyond its endurance.

This was one of those accidents that we would all aspire to learn from...compounding human errors leading to an unnecessary tragedy.
