Is V Australia going to fly BNE-HKG??

On the Hong Kong CAD web site these requests have appeared, for V Australia BNE-HKG return starting 25 October.

Well it would seem strange for the HK govt slot site to have it there if they werent planning on flying there??? Though I havent seen any IASC applications for HK from them.

The times seem to work (I think I have converted correctly).

DEP BNE 2pm Arr HKG 8.50pm (connects to the VS LHR flight)

DEP HKG 11.30pm Arr BNE 10am (would be a longer connec from the inbound LHR flight).

Would this be in expense of MEL-LAX flight? I don't they have enough aircraft for both MEL-LAX and BNE-HKG?

They could also can BNE-LAX and use that aircraft.... so its one or the other that would go.

There has been plenty of speculation on other boards and this board, re MEL-LAX non stops not happening, and flights routed via Sydney.

Also if this slot thing is correct the service does not necessarily have to be daily.I think you would find 3 a week BNE-HKG.

Either MEL-LAX or BNE-LAX would need to be cut to make it happen.

Michael i see that, but that is not how airlines work

Have a look at QF 97-98 BNE-HKG-BNE on the HKG slots page, it shows daily and has for past few years but it only operates 4 times a week.

Airlines apply for daily slots even if they only use half of them.The reason is twofold in case of schedule changes where days of week are changed and also so they can expand their schedules to allow growth .

At busy airports such as HKG they may miss out if they dont

Travel Daily now reporting the following:

VIRGIN Blue’s long-haul international offshoot V Australia has filed a request for slots at Hong Kong Airport.
The possible daily services would operate between Brisbane and Hong Kong and connect with Virgin Atlantic’s flights to London Heathrow Airport - as well as a number of Pacific Blue flights between BNE and New Zealand.

Don't the key international hubs have a "use it or lose it" policy?

If such a policy is in place, then applying for daily slots and only use a few of them would be a waste of money.

Or perhaps HKG is not saturated enough for this?
