Jetstar's First A321 (ex Spirit) will going into operation in May:D

Has this aircraft been hiding in Australia for the past few weeks?

They're not here yet, and they will be doing,

MELBOURNE-GOLD COAST-MELBOURNE
MELBOURNE-CAIRNS-MELBOURNE

Perth?? Are you sure? , I dont think I heard this
MEL-PER was going to be moved soon to AVV once they get another A/C, from what I have heard it just:

MEL-CNS (x1)
MEL-OOL (x3)

But hey, I could be wrong??:)

I read on another site that the first two A321s for Jetstar are undergoing pre-service checks at Victorville, Canada and will be repainted there.

MELBOURNE-GOLD COAST-MELBOURNE
MELBOURNE-CAIRNS-MELBOURNE
MELBOURNE-PERTH-MELBOURNE

Do you have a date for the commencement of the MEL-PER Brian? QF schedules show that the A321s will do the following sectors [April schedules]:

A/C 1:

MEL-CNS 0720 (daily)
CNS-MEL 1125 (daily)
MEL-CNS 1540 (Mon,Wed,Fri,Sun)
CNS-MEL 1945 (Mon,Wed,Fri,Sun)

A/C 2: (all daily)

MEL-OOL 0630
OOL-MEL 0915
MEL-OOL 1230
OOL-MEL 1515
MEL-OOL 1840
OOL-MEL 2125

A/C 3: (effective 17/4, all daily)

MEL-OOL 0745
OOL-MEL 1030
MEL-OOL 1325
OOL-SYD 1610
SYD-OOL 1830
OOL-MEL 2035

None of these three aircraft would allow the MEL-PER service without a schedule change. If the MEL-PER were to become an A321, then a MEL-MCY, MEL-LST and MEL-HBA service would also have to become an A321, which is unlikely [but not impossible] since MEL-MCY has just gone to 3 daily (from 2), and MEL-HBA to 5 daily (from 4).

The A320's are pretty full over here. Perhaps its a long term plan to send the 321's over here. FYI Australian Aviation said that pre service would be done at Newcastle before being ferried to RAAF Richmond.

From a source of mine have heard that VH-VWY is due into Newcastle late afternoon tomorrow after transitting Brisbane on delivery to Jetstar. Not sure if it is in JQ colours though.

As of March 30, all JQ 321s disappear from the schedules and become A320s! Is there a problem with them?

I dont know about Problems, but I know that they have been pushed back to May/June sometime, most likely in May

Wonder if JQ have actually managed to fill any of these A321's flights yet??, past 177 seats

So JQ just happened to have 2 spare A320s did they to directly replace the 2 A321s which they are pulling out of service until May? Or do the A321s become the operational spares now instead of the A320s?

Hi All,

From a source of mine have heard that VH-VWY is due into Newcastle late afternoon tomorrow after transitting Brisbane on delivery to Jetstar.

Citing the Qantas website the inbound flight JQ7990 ex Apia is delayed into Brisbane till 1505 Monday.

JQ7990 Apia 14:20 15:05 (Mon) Estimated

Thus the flight to Newcastle ex Brisbane is now listed as follows:

JQ7990 Newcastle 15:20 16:05 (Mon) Estimated

A shame as despite a likely change to Rwy 01 ops around 1300 or so it's a beautiful day here in Brisbane!

If anyone can substantiate this information it would be appreciated.

Gold. I am sure those Jetstar boys would be enjoying that. I know the QF A330's don't have HF, so why do the 321's? or perhaps thats just a installation for the ferry?

Why would QF A330's not have HF? How can they use them across the Pacific without them? Seems a bit strange to me.

Hey Gentlemen,

VH-VWY finally stuck its head outside the hanger at Williamtown this morning and it is all white with the new Jetstar titles at the front with a little Jetstar titles in front of the rear wings. I have some distant shots from Fighterworld's observation deck, That have alot of heat haze.

Note: Newcastle airports new hard stand was offically opened today with an Antonov 124 being the first to make use of it!

Hi Chris,

I am a little confused as to your description..
You say it has JQ titles at the front, is it the standard (small) JetStar.com or the new Larger JetStar.com titles?

The second part I don't follow..
'with a little Jetstar titles in front of the rear wings'

So it has a white tail? and two sets of Jetstar.com titles on fuselage??

Cheers Chris
If you can post pics that would be awesome, regardless of quality :):D

Onboard today- 3 x3 abreast seating -blue cushions, drop down video entertainment, 2 galleys - aft galley very roomy and stretches the width of the rear section of the aircraft. Cabin Attendants were impressed with the benches aft and were daunted by the length of the aircraft to push the trolleys. When I asked if this aircraft is doing Syd - Per, one CA told me she is rostered Coolangata, Cairns next week in this aircraft. Still no tail markings.

Lukas M
8th April 2008, 07:36 PM
1. Are the they usual Jetstar Domestic Seat (exact design, appearance)
2. Blue cushions??
3. Is it in decent condition?
4. Will Jetstar use the drop-down Video-Entertainment, or just as a flying map

Andy C
8th April 2008, 09:09 PM
1. Blue Seats - not orange and what ever other colour. The only reference to Jetstar internally is the logo on the for'ard bulkhead. As for the video system,
I believe they can show movies (this was pointed out by a FA as she had a sticky beak at the system) in one of the overheads stbd side. Internally clean as an aircraft on a wet day can be. Plastic runners on the deck - blue carpet underneath.

Greg F
9th April 2008, 07:49 AM
Blue Cushions.....

I can only imagine that this will all be 'standardised' at some point.

Has anybody ever flown JQW? is that grey/balck leather seats and orange strip on the overhead units?

1&2. It seems these are still the seat coverings from Spirit. I guess they will be changed at some point probably when JQ can afford it to be cycled out for slightly longer maintenance.

3. This plane is 7 years old so you can expect a bit of wear and tear compared with a factory fresh sample.

4. I assume the video gear may be like the gear DJ had on some of their leased 738s. It was there with a previous operator but never used by DJ.

When I asked if this aircraft is doing Syd - Per, one CA told me she is rostered Coolangata, Cairns

As I understand it the A321s will be on MEL-CNS and MEL-OOL routes only for the time being.

Also, back OOL-MEL on the 17th JQ449

It has the same seats and interior as the other JQ A320s.

Same charcoal grey leather seats Greg, however, no it does not have the orange strip along the overhead lockers, it doesn't have the orange bulkheads at forward and aft, and it does not have orange plastic mouldings on the aisle-side of the seats. It also does not have seat-mounted emergency lights as per the norm on Jetstar A320s; it has the glowing strip-lighting along the floor.

-JQW was affectionately known as "Turkish Delight" while it was flying around in the Saudi scheme. Seating capacity is 3 less at 174 due to the full-sized galley down the back which us crew love to hide in during back-of-the-clock flights, and heaps more bench space. And other crew reckon they can smell a slight wiff of cigarettes in the lavs thanks to the previous operator's smoking policy - but I can't seem to smell it! :p

Hey guys :) Just a heads-up to our MEL spotters out there... The A321 (VH-VWY) is definitely entering service tomorrow (or may have today, I'm not sure). Had a call from Crewing earlier this afternoon advising me of my earlier sign-on time for my remaining CNS and OOL duties this month due to the A321.

Tomorrow I have her for JQ944/947 MEL-CNS-MEL departing 0720, returning 1455. Same again on Friday.

Looking forward to it. :D Will try get a photo inside or out if I have the chance to - we've got a 1 hour turnaround at CNS so I should manage.

That would be good Brendan, It would be good to see some more pictures.

Mind you I am looking forward to the 'real' deals arriving!!
What ever happened to standards with the livery... I mean would you ever see the kangaroo of Qantas' plastered on the fuselage rather than the tail??

From what I have heard JQ aren't too happy with the first A321, spent a lot of $$$$ on her...

No A321 to Cairns this morning. JQ944 was operated by VH-JQL.

24th April 2008, 07:00 PM
Yes, :( sad but true. We were on -JQL today.

I think they must've only decided late last night to pull -VWY off it because myself and the other 4 cabin crew were told yesterday afternoon to sign-on 15 minutes earlier because the A321 was going to be making an appearance (aircraft familiarisation reasons), even the flight crew, caterers and some Jetstar auditors all arrived a bit earlier this morning for nothing but the usual A320! lol.

Apparently another problem to iron out - I was told it was on the ground at MEL (not sure where, but obviously no where in sight from the terminal) - I'm not sure if that's correct or not.

But apparently now tomorrow is the day. And the 25th was actually a date that I heard being thrown around by some tech crew earlier this week, so fingers crossed she shows up tomorrow when I do the morning CNS return (JQ944/947) yet again.

I should've known in this industry you can't say "definitely" hehe. Perhaps this time I'll go with believing it when I see it!

Well as Dave said, it finally flew today. :) First impression when walking thru the L1 door, obviously, long!

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b319/Qantas2/Cabinof-VWYonthefirstrevenueflig-2.jpg

And looking up the cabin from the aft galley, it almost looked like a Qantas aircraft with the blue cloth seats and the drop-down LCD screens. Those seat cushions were a bit tough/hard too, not too different to those on a Connex train to be honest :o - our usual leather seats are damn comfy now I think about it.

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b319/Qantas2/Cabinof-VWYonthefirstrevenueflightf.jpg

Captain made mention to the pax during his welcome PA that they were onboard the first flight of our A321, not that I think too many would've known any different apart from missing out on their usual leather seat. The only way of knowing it was a Jetstar cabin was by the plaques on the row 1 bulkhead...

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b319/Qantas2/Cabinof-VWYonthefirstrevenueflig-1.jpg

The overhead lockers are also the older less rounded sort and CRT screens on the flight deck instead of the LCDs.

My jumpseat was very pokey and I was very much in the personal space of the passenger at seat 23D as you can see by the position in this photo...

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b319/Qantas2/Cabinof-VWYonthefirstrevenueflig-4.jpg

A great deal of legroom for those seated in row 10 or 24! The single flight attendant at both the R2 and R3 stations arm/disarm not only that door but the opposing L2 and L3 doors as well and then walk up (or down) the cabin to cross-check the other set of doors.

And here is the best shot I was able to get of the exterior - I snapped it in the brief time I had between disembarking and boarding during the turnaround, and it was through the dirty glass window on the aerobridge so it's a tad blurry!

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b319/Qantas2/JetstarA321VH-VWYshotfromaerobridge.jpg

On approach to runway 27 at MEL I did see some cars/spotters parked alongside the freeway and slightly off to our right so I'm sure SOME one caught a shot of her! :D Hopefully it will show up soon. There was also a guy with his camera out behind the fence alongside the taxiway near the tower. Did any of our posters/spotters from this board get out there today?

Nice to work on a slightly bigger aircraft today. Novelty will wear off soon I guess - just looking forward to the other incoming A321s with our usual seats, interior and exterior!

Great pics!

I just hope they refurbish the plane, give it new leather seats, strip the current white paint off (which I doubt they will do) and give it the silver A320 style livery. VH-EBC looks better because it has the same livery as the silver A330s for example.

Ahh nice shot Brian! :D So you would have been one of the cars I saw parked alongside the freeway there under the approach on Friday. I was seated at the R3 door in that shot.

And when I was in the flight deck during late in the cruise the boys had actually planned for a rwy 34 arrival and were given 27 instead while I was there and they mentioned that it was strange due to the crosswind which you noted.

Look forward to seeing your shot too Ray, if you're uploading it. :)

Here are a couple of photos of VH-VWZ and VH-VWX to feast your eyes on! :p Not sure where these were taken, but clearly -VWX and Z are in full livery already and close to delivery I would assume?

Yeah, we briefly debated whether or not to run it, but when you've got the first pics of the A321 in JQ colours for publication, you don't knock it back because of a detail like that!

jetstar's white scheme...it reminded me of jetstar's A333's white livery lol

BTW...Isn't Boeing 757 fuselage longer than A321? When I looked at Brenden's photo of A321 interior cabin, it seems to me that it's shorter than B757.

A little bit more A321 information...

Apparently the first A321 (VH-VWY) did not receive the full paint-job/livery because the extensive delays in fixing her up caused her to miss the paint "slot" that it had scheduled. September is apparently when she is likely to receive her refit with grey leather seats and a proper repaint.

And whilst not 100% firm, and obviously subject to change; at this stage the next A321 (VH-VWZ) is expected to arrive in Australia May 15, with a CASA check on May 21. Hopefully then we can see the 321 operating the MEL-OOL-SYD-OOL-MEL shift or at least the MEL-OOL-MEL runs, instead of just CNS. :)

Any news on when VH-VWY will be getting a full paint and cabin refit?

Greg F
17th August 2008, 12:13 PM
I hope it gets a refit soon, I flew on her to the Gold coast the other week and the seats are so hard and dont seem as tall.....

It was nice to sit in a 320 seat on the way home! much nicer!!

The aircraft also made a bizare shudder as we took off it was interesting...
I know the 320's make a slight shudder but this was a relitavely intense one, any ideas why?

I've just returned home from an afternoon on the A320 (BNE-MKY-BNE) and was seated in the forward part of the aircraft and I am thinking the shudder you are talking about is the nosegear wheels spinning once airborne. As they are unbalanced they are going to "shimmy" (if that makes sense?) when contact with the runway is lost. It is very noticeable as it can be felt and heard.

We had expert crews on the way up and back, they hit EVERY runway centre light at Brisbane......... these are clearly audible as a "Bang...... Bang...... Bang......" while moving at speed on the runway.

The challenge is to hit as many centreline lights as possible.

Thuink it should be clarified that JQ orginally had 3 or 4 A321 coming from Spirit and some new ones. The 3rd which is due from Spirit is the one I beleive they have turned their nose at waiting for the new build ones. So yes there will be a 3rd, and 4th, but not ex Spirit.

Hey Joseph, interior photo of VH-VWY's cabin can be found here http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=6335532 (Click here to see a photo of the cabin of VH-VWY) - which is the same as -VWZ.

I heard word from some tech crew a month or two ago that the two A321s were due to be refitted with new floors and our standard grey leather seating around mid-September, but as always things in this industry are never a sure-thing so I'm not sure if that was rumour or if it is still due to happen soon.

And yes the 3rd ex-Spirit aircraft was canned, but as others have mentioned, we still have our order for new A321s from Airbus that are still to come. Supposedly a couple are due before the year is out, but I'm not sure how that is looking. The brand-new A321s will be damn pretty inside if our 3 brand-new A320 aircraft are anything to go by (-VQD/E/F). ;)
